‘Bye-bye The Pirate Bay, hello Video Bay

p2pnet news view | P2P | Movies:- The Pirate Bay gang have either totally ratted out all the people who for years have been supporting them, or in a canny business move, they’ve moved from text to video.

As the world was today informed, TPB has been bought by a gaming company which promises to, “eliminate today’s … pirates“.

So can Hollywood breathe a sigh of relief?

Meet vBay (as it’ll inevitably be tagged) aka the Video Bay.

When we surfed over to http://www.thevideobay.org/ at 8:07 Pacific, we found, “Page Load Error – The document contains no data”.

But vBay is billed, “as a rival to YouTube,” offering unrestricted video content, “in violation of copyright law,” says the BBC.

But before it went down, TPBvBay was already asking for help from potential punters, saying »»»

The Video Bay – Beta Extreme
(Don’t expect anything to work at all)

To stay in the spirit on which TPB was founded and using the Latest Technology™, TVB aims to use the new HTML5 features, more specificly the <video> and <audio> tags with the ogg/theora video and audio formats. This site will be an experimental playground and as such subjected to both live and drunk (en)coding, so please don’t bug us too much if the site ain’t working properly.

Sneak peak

Because of increased popularity on the closed beta announcement we have decided to give everyone a sneak peak.

You can also check out the VideoBay thread at the SuprBay forum to leave comments and feedback.

To view any audio or video clips on this site you need a browser that can handle the HTML5 <video> and/or <audio> tag, such as:
Firefox 3.5 beta 4
Opera 9.52 preview
Google Chrome 3
Safari 3.4 & Safari 4

We need help with the following

Speling an’ grammmar n’ stuff (pete fix mKey!)!
Transcoding NINJAS with skills using ffmpeg2theora
Javascript hakker (more specificly the upload progressbar)

If you are interested, send a mail to helping @ the video bay . org (remove the spaces in address)
(seems to have been an error with the above address, it *should* be fixed now)

Will Google sit still while TPB — sorry, vBay, tries to trump it? Will the movie mogusl renew their efforts to wipe TPB4 off the face of the earth?

Meanwhile, “TPB founder Peter Sunde announced The Video Bay to the Open Video Conference in New York,” says the Beeb.

Stay tuned.

I am sorry but after today they have lost my interest in their projects.

i don’t see what the big deal is. the pirate bay has a lot of trouble going on. getting rid of it and getting some money is an excellent way to solve it. i’d do the same.

plus, i really DO hope they make the best of this: a legal alternative to piracy. i’m still not going to pay 60 dollars for a new game that my computer might be able to handle, but if they give me an alternative to piracy that doesn’t suck, i’ll consider it. you should too.
