Facebook ‘flexes political muscle’
p2pnet news view Advertising | Politics:- Giant online advertising company Google has a dedicated political arm to enhance and further its corporate interests.
So, why not not-so-giant, but still pretty big, social advertising company Facebook?
Thus, it’s no suprise to learn it’s hiring lobbyists.
According to Chris Kelly, Fa$ebook “chief privacy officer,” quoted in The Guardian, it’s been, “engaging in talks with government officials in various countries for some time,” but its “growing size and importance” mean it’s essential they, “understand our philosophy”.
And that makes perfect sense given the increasing the tendency of world governments to put corporate interests well ahead of those of the people who elected them.
“Technology corporations are increasingly flexing political muscle in an attempt to mould government legislative reform in their favour,” says the story, mnoting in recent years, “Google has stepped up its efforts on both sides of the Atlantic and the company has taken a more disciplined approach to lobbying.”
And, it adds, “that approach appears to have paid off: Barack Obama openly backed a number of internet policies championed by Google during the US EUelection and has handed Eric Schmidt, the Google chief executive, a place on his presidential advisory board for science and technology.
Speaking of Google’s political agenda, “More recently, Google’s head of global public policy, Andrew McLaughlin, joined the White House as deputy chief technology officer,” says the story.
Soon, Farcebook founder Mark Zuckerberg will be sitting at Obama’s right hand.

Another reason why I still can’t understand how there’s people out there who still think that sites like Facebook don’t make money…
Let alone the vast number of naive people that think that Twitter has no business model
