UMG, Norah: The Ones

p2pnet.net News:- The IFPI (International Federation of Phonographic Industries) has just released the 11th edition of its Recording Industry In Numbers.

And for the first time, it’s produced market shares based on wholly or majority owned ‘content’ [that's what they used to call music back in medieval times] on a country by country basis.

Global market shares for 2003 were:

  • Universal – 23.5%
    EMI – 13.4%

  • Sony -13.2%
  • Warner – 12.7%
  • BMG – 11.9%
  • ‘Independents’ took 25.3%.

The year’s best-selling album was Norah Jones’ Come ‘Away With Me’, followed in order of sales by:

  • 50 Cent ‘Get Rich or Die Tryin”
  • Linkin Park ‘Meteora’
  • Dido ‘Life for Rent’
  • Beyonce Knowles ‘Dangerously in Love’
  • Coldplay ‘A Rush of Blood to the Head’
  • Evanescence ‘Fallen’
  • Britney Spears ‘In the Zone’
  • Avril Lavigne ‘Let Go’ and Celine Dion ‘One Heart’
