321’s Moore on activations

p2pnet.net News:- Robert Boyd’s OpEd centering on the entertainment industry’s attack on Robert Moore’s 321 Studios struck a chord with a lot of people.

As Boyd wrote, “321 Studios of St. Louis, Missouri, took on the powerful movie and recording industries in a quixotic effort to provide a legitimate product and service, but ended nearly bankrupt.”

Moore wasn’t the only one left hanging.

We had several emails from p2pnet readers on activations.

In his reponse to Boyd’s piece, Moore said: ”[...] it is my understanding that all software activations for previously sold 321 products are now set to 75 and the third parties who control this software (as they always have) intend to continue to support and activate this software from countries where it is expressly permitted to make back up copies of one’s own digital property.”

By way of clarification, he told p2pnet today:

“Activations on all 321 products are being handled by their respective intellectual property holders, but I have been privately assured that they will continue as long as needed. The initial response by these intellectual property holders to our concerns was to set all activations on these software products to 75 unique activations. This, however, is in addition to the fact that ’same machine’ installs will not decrement this counter. So technically, one could install, reformat and install again indefinitely and there would never be a reduction in the activation count.

“If they choose however to go out and buy a new computer and install to that computer the count would go from say 75 to 74. But again, they would have unlimited activations on that same machine.

“If in the future someone should possibly run out of activations, and presuming there is no fraud involved, like mass distribution of keys, then I have been told those activations will be raised without hesitation for the consumer on an as needed basis.”

In the meanwhile, what’s Moore up to these days?

“I’m still battling with a few remaining lawsuits and just trying to bring everything to a close,” he says.

“Even though some of your readers give us zero credit, apparently everyone else that we are engaged in a lawsuit with thinks we are behind everything including cloned, 123copydvd and others.

“AARGH!

“So hopefully, we will bring everything to a close soon and I can begin to pursue other opportunities.”

One Response to “321’s Moore on activations”

  1. Reader's Write Says:

I have to post on behalf of the former affiliates of 321 Studios…

Though we did our part and made sales for 321 Studios and Robert Moore they failed to uphold their end of the bargain and abandoned us, the affiliates, without paying us the money rightfully owed!

Some affiliates had invested hundreds to thousands of dollars in PPC and other ad methods only to be left holding the bill.

Robert Moore, Rob Semaan, Steve Mastin and the other principles of 321 Studios certainly got their last paychecks and surely went on to further their BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES elsewhere… Affiliates beware of working with companies that these guys have any part in… you could very well end up like we the screwed affiliates!

I welcome the opportunity to discuss this further with any interested parties – email: johng.dvd@gmail.com
