sex.xxx in Australia

p2pnet news view P2P:- Dot XXX is in high demand in Australia.

And that’s likely to start a bidding war for adult-theme generic top-level domains (GTLDs), says Australian IT.

Efforts to establish an online red light district under top-level .xxx were thwarted in 2006, “But Australia’s top-level-domain registry operator AusRegistry has confirmed it has been approached by several parties seeking support for bids to register several adult-themed GTLDs, including .xxx, when the peak names regulator starts accepting them next February,” says the story, going on:

“AusRegistry chief Adrian Kinderis said the registry had been approached by several entities willing to put up the $185,000 fee to register adult-themed names, including .xxx.  Under the new bidding process, non-community-based bids, known as open bids, will go to auction if two or more entities seek control of the same name.”

Some of the names could be worth millions to the operators, according to Kinderis.

“Sectors of the adult entertainment industry and Christian lobbyists are in a rare alliance opposing the creation of internet red light districts,” says the story, adding:

“Christian groups fear it would make it easier for children to find porn on the web. But Robbie Swan, of Australia’s Eros Association, said: ‘We think the opposite will happen — once governments are able to corral all adult industries under one domain, they can easily blacklist it’.”

Just what we need, more blacklisting!

  2. Reader's Write Says:

    Racism starts with segregation too.

  3. Λ Says:

    @RW: Sexism? :P

Actually ‘contentism’ is a more appropriate term.

  4. Reader's Write Says:

    .xxx makes sense.
but for it to work the adult industries need to be using it.
it will help parents block the content in an easier way.

the only issue with this move would be censorship at the government or ISP (aka Idiotic Service Provider) levels.

even though the internet is about openness, parents and guardians should have the ability to control what their children become exposed too in a open easy to use fashion.

They already have that ability, always have.
    It’s called parental responsibility.

I have twins, they are now 18.
They have had net access since they were little.
They knew I could, and would, check on them.
I didn’t need to be looking over their shoulder, all it took/takes is a
little education to know how to check, and where to check, and ground rules.

    1. I will check where you’ve been, if you go where you shouldn’t .. you get cut off.
    2. If you cover your tracks so I can’t check, you get cut off.
    3. Your MySpace/facebook/etc profiles are to be private and passworded, I am to have
that password. I will be informed of everyone you add, I will check.
    4. Change the password, you get cut off.

I caught them .. once .. surfing porn sites. I cut them off for a month and …
I have a good friend who has a farm, and raises cattle. They spent a month
going over there, shoveling cow manure for my bud. I told them if they want to
look at shit, they may as well shovel it.

They never broke the rules again.

Yes, I am sure they may have put one over on me a few times, but it’s a
kids nature to be curious, and a PARENTS responsibility to be diligent. Not
the government or any other special interest group.

Parents already have the ability, but many don’t want to take the responsibility.

  6. Dreddsnik Says:

( ps . .. their nickname for me was Pai Mei ;) )

  7. HBH Says:

*shudder* What a puritanical fascist parent you are, Dreddsnik.

There is nothing wrong with porn.

Right, as long as your 18 or over, and using a computer that I don’t have
    to fix.
I said nothing about wiping it off the net.
I said nothing about telling others that want to view it that they can’t because
    ‘ I said so’.

That was my choice and responsibility to make as a parent to my own kids.
I never even said the you couldn’t allow your own kids to view it if it doesn’t
    bother you.

Take it in context with the rest of the article and my post.

Parental responsibility, not the government, nor anyone elses.
If you feel you have to relegate that responsibility to a government agency,
    don’t have kids.

    That was my point.
I’ll choose for my kids, you choose for yours, and we will both be happy.
( I have a feeling i’ll be happier than you in the long run though ) .

  9. Reader's Write Says:

.xxx wont work. People have been trying (and failing) to define pornography forever basically, usually ending up with the “I’d know it when I see it” remark. What’s more is that the accepted “decency” level isn’t static, over both time and regions.

For example I was watching TV in the UK yesterday and the film showed a woman’s breasts, it was around 3pm in the afternoon. In other countries this would end up getting the TV station a huge fine. How on earth would people be able to make a decision on what belongs segregated when there’s so many different opionions on what constitutes explicit content.
