Brüno vs Twitter
p2pnet news view | P2P | Movies:- Instant-messaging can make or break a film within 24 hours. Friday is the new weekend.
So says Time in a story on whether or not Twitter put the mockers on Brüno, “the Sacha Baron Cohen docu-comedy in which an Austrian fashion journalist shoves his flamboyant gayness in the faces and other body parts of unsuspecting Americans”.
It goes on »»»
Brüno could be the first movie defeated by the Twitter effect.
As Brüno flounced and floundered with audiences, two other behemoths stood sturdy. In its second weekend, the 3-D cartoon Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is projected to finish right behind Brüno, at $28.5 million, for a worldwide 10-day gross of $312.5 million. And that overblown toy story, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, has earned more than that just in North America. In fewer than 20 days, the second Transformers has overtaken the first one in its entire domestic theatrical run and entered the all-time top 20, passing every Harry Potter and Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
Of course, Time has it all wrong.
All the flicks cited above are on the P2P networks and as everyone knows, because the Hollywood studios and their MPAA mouthpiece have told us over and over again (simultaneously reporting ever-increasing yearly revenues) they’re being “devastated” as first-run features routinely show up online.
What of Brüno?
“Baron Cohen, whose first job after graduating from Cambridge University was as a fashion model, deserves credit for pushing further than he did in Borat,” says Time, adding
… he and Universal (which paid a hefty $42.5 million for rights to the movie and launched a worldwide marketing campaign that brought the pre-release tab to about $100 million) had two hints that things could go wrong. One was the death of Michael Jackson, which spurred the filmmakers to remove a scene in which Brüno asks La Toya Jackson for the King of Pop’s phone number. (See pictures of a postMichael Jackson family tree.)
The other was the reaction by the gay community to the movie’s depiction of an asinine, predatory homosexual. Baron Cohen probably figured that if anyone can take a joke, it’s gay people. But the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation was not amused. The film “decreases the public’s comfort with gay people,” GLAAD president Jarrett Barrios said, adding that some scenes “hit the gay community pretty hard and reinforce some damaging, hurtful stereotypes” â an observation that was recirculated in the Twitterverse.
No need to stay tuned.

Truthfully, I find Sacha Cohen to be a royal ass, and a childish one at that. I find his humor to be repulsive and juvenile. His characters are nothing more than tripe. One of his favorite stunts is to sneak onto a movie set or a game show and pretend to be part of the audience or staff and act outrageously, offending everyone and when found out he gets a royal laff out of being chased or thrown out of the building. Wasn’t there a report where a woman is suing the dumbkoff for beating her up along with some of his camera men to the point where she’s now in a wheelchair.
To me this clown, call him what you will Ali G, Borat, or Bruno, is nothing more than a blot on humanity. Myself, I’m hoping that someone sues his dumb ass for his stunts or beats the living shit out of him for one of those self same stunts.
People like Cohen seem to think that they are the greatest and that everyone loves them, well, I for one would rather poke myself in the eye with a sharp stick than to acknowledge that I even knew him.

Was there a report he assaulted a lady ? you tell us…
I think we get the point you dont like him and this latest charachter is unlikely to appeal to many but if your going to reference material with an allegation of criminal activity then please provide a link to back your claim.

With Borat I felt I did a whole ab routine by the time I got out of the movie. Bruno just wasn’t that funny, Borat is a much more brilliant and authentically funny character. Bruno tried to hard to beat borat and there are scenes (like some sequences with the little dude at the beginning) that aren’t Sacha Cohen style (flipping the guy 360 on Brunos dick? cmon)
It was just a collection of funny jokes here and there, I’d give it a 3 out of 5.

Here’s the story from online as of June 4, this year.
Woman sues Sacha Baron Cohen over Brunoâs âbingo game stuntâ
June 4th, 2009 – 5:24 pm ICT by ANI Tell a Friend -
New York, June 4 (ANI): Sacha Baron Cohen is said to be in trouble once again over his gay fashionista alter ego Bruno.
According to TMZ.com, a woman has sued UK comedian Cohen, NBC Universal and others for unspecified damages claiming that the actor (as Bruno) âoffensively touched, pushed and batteredâ her at a Bingo Hall in 2007.
Richelle Olson, the Executive Director of Desert Valley Charities, says that Cohen grabbed the microphone at the event in Palmdale, California, and started using vulgarities in front of an elderly audience while calling the numbers, reports the New York Daily News.
Olson claims a struggle ensued after she tried to take back the microphone and the altercation consequently caused her to fall to the ground.
She alleges that after her âhumiliation and embarrassmentâ was recorded, she began âsobbing uncontrollably,â lost consciousness, and then fell forward onto a âthinly covered concrete slab.â
Olson says she was diagnosed with âtwo brain bleedsâ after passing out and hitting her head, and has been confined to a wheelchair and walker ever since. (ANI)
Now if this isn’t a moronic half wit stunt by this moronic half wit who thinks he’s funny, then I don’t know what is. Whereas I may not like Sacha Cohen, it’s more his stunts and how he gets his publicity that angers me than anything else. I’ve seen samples of his AliG show and that man is lucky to have walked out of that building alive more than a few times. If this is what passes for comedy these days then I’ll stick with Buster Keaton, and Charley Chaplin who knew comedy as well as Chevy Chase, Robin Williams and list goes on and on of comics who can make people laugh without insulting them. Hell, even Richard Pryor at his foulest mouthed self was better than this half witted moronic SOB.

Here is the article I mentioned on that piece of canine excretment.
“TMZ.com is reporting that a woman has sued actor Sacha Baron Cohen after she was attacked and allegedly left “crippled” by the “Bruno” star.
“Richelle Olson has sued Cohen, NBC Universal and others claiming they told her Bruno was a celeb and would appear and call numbers at the bingo game she ran for the elderly in Palmdale, CA. Olson was none too happy when she saw Bruno, whom she describes as an “extreme, outrageous, offensive caricature of a gay man dressed in sexually revealing clothing with an Austrian accent…” â¨â¨
Now if this is what you call humor, then I’m glad that I grew up in an era where the comics made fun of themselves and life and didn’t go around pretending to be something they weren’t nor did they assault people. Richard Pryor at his foulest mouthed had nothing on this moron and after watching his AliG show, it’s a wonder the guests didn’t string this asshole up over a slow fire. One of these days this turd is gonna get caught and I hope to GOD he’s either beaten to within an inch of his life or thrown in jail with a bunch of people that absolutely hate his guts.
“Olson alleges Bruno used “vulgar and offensive language” and when she tried taking the mic from him, a “physical struggle ensued” and Cohen “offensively touched, pushed and battered” her, causing her to fall to the ground.â¨â¨She then claims three cameramen and otheres rushed the stage. … where defendants attacked [her] for a period of one to five minutes to intentionally create a dramatic emotional response … while [they] recorded her humiliation and embarrassment.”â¨â¨
Further reports indicate that Ms. Olson was taken into another room where she was “sobbing uncontrollably” then was rendered unconscious.
After the alleged assault was over, the suit says Olson went into another room where she was “sobbing uncontrollably” … then was rendered unconscious … “falling forward onto the thinly covered concrete slab, passing out and causing her to hit her head.”â¨â¨
According to TMZ.com, Olseon was diagnosed with two brain bleeds — and that she has been confined to a wheelchair and walker ever since.â¨â¨
Olson and her husband are suing for unspecified damages, including loss of marital relations.
Gambling911.com reported Tuesday that Texas Republican Congressman Ron Paul and an ally to the online gambling sector was also the subject of a Sacha Cohen prank. Paul suggested his supporters might be disappointed that he did not punch Sacha in the face after attempting to seduce the Congressman on a film set designed to look like a hotel room.
“Bruno” is due out in theatres next month.
