Someone shrunk Midtown Manattan
p2pnet news view | Cool:- SteelWolf is a contributor to the debate on whether or not Gragle’s Street View advertising panoramas of people’s houses are an invasion of privacy.
“Maybe something like this is the solution to Street View’s privacy issues,” he says in an email.
What would that be?
“A ‘cartoon’ type rendering of an area could provide enough detail to be useful without including pedestrians or other details by accident,” he says.
Dunno, SW. If it’s still readily recognizable as someone’s private and personal domicile, and it’s being reproduced millions of times by Gargoyle without permission …
Anyhow, SteelWolf points to a Gizmodo post slugged ‘Honey, Someone Shrunk Hong Kong’.
“I love maps, and this is my favorite city map after the axonometric view of midtown Manhattan,” says Jesu Diaz, pointing to Tadashi Ishihara’s Birds Eye Map of Midtown Manhattan.
“The map is a beautiful design, is hand drawn, and is a flawless representation of Midtown Manhattan,” says the site, adding:
“Mr. Ishihara took over 7000 aerial photographs of Midtown Manhattan in order to reproduce the cityscape by hand.
“The map is designed as an isometric projection. Therefore, the area of the map and the height of the buildings are all at the same scale. The map creates a ‘three dimensional effect.’ It shows the actual number of floors and windows in each building.”
Incredible.
