Plato says No! to Remix

James Boyle, who is working on the latest edition of the Tales From The Public Domain comic book has shared a nice little graphic that shows a quote from Plato, suggesting that he wouldn’t be a big fan of remixed music…

“This is the point to which, above all, the attention of our rulers should be directed — that music and gymnastics be preserved in their original form, and no innovation made. They must do their utmost to maintain them intact….”

“Um…the Plato quote is in a speech bubble off Aristotle, while Plato has the Danger Mouse think bubble,” notes Blaise Alleyne from Canada.

“You are absolutely correct,” James responds. “Serves me right for thinking that the audience would care more about the composition than the identities … And who could resist the Linux/Dangermouse visual pun! But in the final version we will abandon such playfulness for accuracy.”

But there’s more.

In his intro to Plato on Remix, “Sometimes the past sends you wonderful quotations and images,” James says. “One of the reasons why the comic drafting process is so much fun …”
