Linux security boost
p2pnet.net News:- A European consortium, including Linux-distributor Mandrakesoft, has won an $8.6 million contract to boost Linux’ security, says a TechWeb story, going on that the French Ministry of Defense is, "expected to make the operating system compliant with Evaluation Assurance Level 5, or EAL5, a classification within an international security certification called Common Criteria".
The certification, "carries a lot of weight within many governments and military organizations".
Linux has so far reached EAL3 under the work of Linux sellers Red Hat and Novell while in comparison, HP’s HP-UX, IBM’s AIX and Sun Microsystems’s Solaris Unix-based operating systems have EAL4 certification, together with Microsofts Windows, adds TechWeb.
