Brothers nailed for camcording Bruno

p2pnet news view | P2P | Movies:- The two on the left are obviously a clear and present danger to Hollywood, aka Time Warner, Viacom, Fox, Sony, NBC Universal and Disney.

They’re alleged to have camcorded Bruno, the Sacha Baron Cohen docu-comedy in which an Austrian fashion journalist shoves his flamboyant gayness in the faces and other body parts of unsuspecting Americans.

Well, who wouldn’t have wanted a copy of that?

“Paul Epifan, 23 (right), and Timothy Epifan, 21, were charged with third-degree theft by deception and fourth-degree piracy after the Somerset County Prosecutor`s Office Major Crimes Squad received an anonymous tip that two people were videotaping movies in theaters and selling them prior to DVD releases,” says Packet Publications.

Fourth-degree piracy, eh? Nasty.

First-degree piracy is probably when you shanghai a ship and murder everyone on board.

Over in Australia, Hollywood’s korporate kopyright kops, the MPAA, are using a Philippine actor as a deputy dog.

The guy, someone named Eduardo Manzano, is even around when the real police — paid for by Australian citizens of course — stage (word used advisedly) raids on behalf of the corporate movie studios.

Now, “According to Somerset County Prosecutor Wayne Forrest, the tip was received at 11 a.m., and, as Paul Epifan and Timothy Epifan were leaving the theater, they were approached by police officers,” says Packet News, adding »»»

Paul Epifan was immediately placed under arrest, but Timothy Epifan fled from detectives, Mr. Forrest said, while simultaneously attempting to delete the contents of a video recording device he had attached to his waistband. Mr. Epifan attempted to run between two police vehicles while fleeing, but collided with one and suffered a broken left leg, the prosecutor said.

Mr. Epifan was transported to an area hospital, and was charged with fourth-degree resisting arrest by flight, he said.

Following the arrests, Mr. Forrest said, a search warrant was obtained for the brothers` residence and detectives from the Prosecutor`s Office, Bridgewater Police Department and investigators from the Motion Picture Association allegedly found several computers and pirated DVD movies and equipment.

What were korporate kopyright kops doing hand-in-hand with the local fuzz?

The story doesn’t say.

(Cheers, YKW)

I really dislike the police when it comes to stuff like this, but it was honestly the correct thing to do.

See, if they were recording it to be shared free amongst P2P users, most would pity the guys then..

But as we know, the p2p community does not exactly appreciate people that record and then immediatly sell it off as to what they were doing.. Such people like this are the very people that the cops SHOULD be going after, not file sharers.

Surprise. Surprise. Despite catching these 2 morons, your movie still made it to p2p. Congrats you stopped absolutely nothing.

Stream your movies live over the internet upon release and you wouldn’t have cammers. In fact im sure many would pay to see it from the comfort of their own home. Alas they must wait until the dvd release to purchase the hollywood DRM.

    here’s my angle…

MPAA aren’t happy with box office results for this brain damaging attempt at ‘cinema’..

    Memo: From the desk of Dan ‘The Joker’ Glickman;
Let’s run over a cammer to get some publicity out for this movie,
and maybe the box office numbers will go up.
Besides, it’s free, the media will eat this shit up.

p.s. Make it some young kid to emphasize our determination
to crack down on children, but don’t kill him, just run him over
and taser him, a couple of time.

I hardly ever pay to see a movie in a theatre anymore. The only ones I do pay to see are ones that:

    1) I know are going to break the $100 million mark anyway
    2) I basically have nothing better to do.

Generally speaking, I only purchase about 3-5 movie tickets every year. But it has nothing to do with the price, or the convenience of downloading. I am sick of being treated like a criminal every time I pay to see a movie, and being subjected to 20 minutes of advertising, propaganda, and thinly veiled attempts to scam even more money out of me. And let’s face it, the quality of movies being made right now hardly seem worth the effort of taking a few hours out of your schedule, driving to the theatre, etc. I think I speak for most consumers when I say that the cinema experience just plain sucks. People are still, and have always been, willing to pay for quality entertainment, even when free alternatives exist, just so long as they are treated with respect. An industry that accuses its paying customers of criminal activity cannot survive in the digital age.

  6. Reader's Write Says:

Recommendation: Never go to the movie theater.

    BOYCOTT THE RIAA/MPAA!

    BOYCOTT THE PARASITES!

  7. Reader's Write Says:

If you go to the movie theater at least don’t pay for it!

    PLEASE!

  8. deadbeatstalk Says:

the big guys want it all.
on one side the cry about losing money because of pirating
but they don’t want to show big profits on a film so they use Hollywood accounting * http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollywood_accounting *
to show losses so as not to pay the the writers.

  9. Jack from Nashville Says:

What a piece of shit movie to get busted over!

  10. Reader's Write Says:

    these guys are morons.
anyone making profit off of pirating deserves what they get.
