US comsec Gary Locke: copyright group leader
p2pnet news view | P2P | Politics:- The Obushma administration is well stocked with corporate supporters.
US vice president Joe Biden is an infamous and ardent Hollywood admirer, and the Department of Justice is top-heavy with ex-RIAA lawyers.
But Biden and the RIAA legal hacks aren’t the only senior US political officers who seem to be working in the best vested interests of the corporate entertainment industry.
In the past, perhaps there was a tendency to be dismissive of what you produce, p2pnet quoted commerce secretary Gary Locke (right) as saying at a, “PR event staged to present the picture that America, its culture and its economy depend on Hollywood“.
I see your product as a uniquely American commodity, Locke wallowed in CongressDaily. Movies and television shows are a direct product of the freedom we enjoy.
But it seems Locke has another important corporate role — as a copyright group leader.
Who says?
None other than Dan ‘The Joker’ Glickman, the soon-to-be-ex leader of Hollywood spin outfit the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America).
In a statement lauding the latest puff piece from corporate entertainment industry PR unit the International Intellectual Property Alliance, “Glickman joined Commerce Secretary Gary Locke and the leaders of other copyright industry groups” in releasing a ‘new’ IIPA ‘report’ highlighting the, “contributions of the copyright industries to America`s economic growth”.
There’s not much point in quoting the report, replete with self-serving Hollywood bumpf carefully crafted to give the impression that America would go under were it not for Time Warner, Viacom, Fox, Sony, NBC Universal and Disney.
Produced by Stephen Siwek, the man behind other creative corporate studies, it’s just another element in the never-ending entertainment cartel statistics game.
Say no more.
And no need to stay tuned.
