Yahoo goes all Handy Manny
p2pnet news view | Products:- Hooray! Hooray! In fact, Yahoo!
Yahoo has had a major face lift. Or is it liposuction?
It isn’t news that Yahoo has been, “readying a new version of its homepage and has spent a lot of time doing soin fact, it’s gone all Handy Manny with a whole lot of test renovationsthe Internet giant begins the massive rollout of it tomorrow,” says All Things Digital.
Yahoo says its new page has, “direct access to the likes of eBay, Twitter and Facebook,” says The Register, going on:
“The revamp will be launched a month ahead of schedule, while tweaks to its search page will follow in August.”
BUT — there’s a but.
“Users interested in accessing it will be required to opt in,” says the story.
And, “The launch of the new home page comes as speculation and rumour mount that Yahoo is near to finalising a deal with Microsoft over a search and advertising partnership,” says the BBC. “The company is also facing increasing competition from the software giant following the release of its Bing internet search engine last month.
“Microsoft’s Bing search engine is giving Yahoo some competition. There is little doubt that Yahoo is hoping this overhaul will revitalise both the company itself and the way it is viewed.”
One suspects it’ll take a lot more than a new web page to revitalise Yahoo’s image, particularly when it comes to the rights of its users in China.
