"There is no difference between an URL and a torrent. It is the same thing in a different format."

Don't forget that you can right click a URL and save it as a file, which only serves to reinforce your point.

I'm glad this article got posted. I made a comment on Torrent Freak this past week stating something along the same lines. I have Google to thank for more than half of the stuff I've "sampled" over the past couple of months. Google is actually better in some regards because it is not limited to torrents alone. Anyways, if an indexing site that neither hosts torrents nor does any tracking is good enough to be a legal target, then so should all the other search engines out there (Google, Yahoo, Altavista, Bing, etc). I'd really love to see the entertainment industry go up against any one of them for a laugh or two.

"“Indexing” sites do NOT host torrents, they merely index where they can be found."

But torrents just merely index where content can be found also.

So a torrent file is nothing more than an index pointing to a content somewhere on the net.

A torrent file is not a content.

There is no difference between an URL and a torrent. It is the same thing in a different format.

"But torrents are not copyrighted and if they were they will not be the “property” of the Mafia. So what is the difference between a google link and a torrent?"

oh, oh, I know the answer!

It's what big money wants you to see. it's all in perception (an illusion) with their branding and their marketing hoopla.

Money talks.

Of course there is no difference.

each one is a link.

It's all the same.

Also, keep in mind the kartels get money from google and signed big money into google utube.

Money to the playing dumb (who wants money badly) cast this illusion.

Did I pass?

Basically the corporate Mafia of parasites with all the monies they stole from the artists and the public control our governments and our justice systems.

So justice is dead.

We now can eradicate these corporate parasites.

Yeh carlos but "*I have often used Google to find torrents from not only tracker sites, but a number of different sources - some of which actually fail to turn up in a standard tracker search. So far, Google has not let me down even once* from RW above. You have to think that would get the labels and Hollydud going.

"Here we have the MAFIAA going after INDEXING SITES (who also don’t host torrents)"

what do they do if they don't host torrents? indexing sites host torrents that is what they do.

on the other hand metasearch sites dont host torrents (like torrentz.com) so maybe this is what you mean ;)

and btw no metasearch sites is being sued :)

like google isn't also :)

“…but google does not host torrents…”

Google cache + .torrent filetype search = storred torrent on google?
(Going to have to try that, cache works for many other features)

Also torrents themselves are just links to trackers, which links to other computers. Lawsuits over links-to-links-to-links (with possibly more -to-links depending on the starting site)

"...but google does not host torrents..."

Yeah, but, wasn't that the whole point?!
Here we have the MAFIAA going after INDEXING SITES (who also don't host torrents), while Google demonstrates itself as a prime resource to find the same torrents. This, naturally, raises the question of why Google is not targetted right along with the indexing sites.

I have often used Google to find torrents from not only tracker sites, but a number of different sources - some of which actually fail to turn up in a standard tracker search. So far, Google has not let me down even once on a difficult find. From my experience, I find this argument extremely valid.
