RIAA wants Joel’s dad to testify against him
p2pnet news view RIAA | P2P:- When Vivendi Universal, EMI, Warner Music and Sony Music used their RIAA to launched their sue ‘em all campaign against their own customers, they had the game to themselves with the lamescream media falling over themselves to regurgitate Big 4 puff-pieces almost word-for-word.
But that was then.
Now, the traditional print and electronic are playing second – or is it third? — fiddle to the online news sites and blogs and as we pointed out earlier today, Twitter will play a major role in keeping people informed about what’s happening as it happens in the current Joel Tenenbaum vs the RIAA trial.
In our first post, we gave links to Twitter pages mounted by JoelFightsBack, Debbie Rosenbaum and Charlie Nesson.
But somehow, I missed Joel himself. So I’m correcting that now, thanks to Ray Beckerman.
On jesusina, he tweets, in part »»»
#musicfacts I’m being sued for potentially millions for sharing music. Trial starts monday.
Joel: Dad, will you be at the trial (for support)? Dad: Yes, actually, they’re summoning me to testify against you on Tuesday #JFB
I also promised to try to do regular updates on all four as this progresses.
Also see Darknets, Joel Tenenbaum and Big Music.
And stay tuned …
Cheers!

How it feels to be sued for $4.5m By Joel Tenenbaum
http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicblog/2009/jul/27/filesharing-music-industry
When I contemplate the above sum, I have to remind myself what I’m being charged with. Investment fraud? An attack against the government? No. I shared music. And refused to cave
To a certain extent, I’m afraid to write this. Though they’ve already seized my computer and copied my hard drive, I have no guarantee they won’t do it again. For the past four years, they’ve been threatening me, making demands for trial, deposing my parents, sisters, friends, and myself twice â the first time for nine hours, the second for seven. I face up to $4.5m in fines and the last case like mine that went to trial had a jury verdict of $1.92m.

@UHA: When one of these kids commits suicide this will really blow up in there face. âmusic industry kills kidâ
Unfortunately the headline would probably read “Suspected music thief commits suicide in remorse over getting caught stealing from artists”
The suicide would be taken as a confessionary proof of the case against the victim. Even if the kid was 100% innocent, there is always a way to spin an event to make your opponent to look bad. This is even easier if you control part of the media.
The Internet can’t solve this problem ether, the truth is out there somewhere, but it’s commonly buried under so much truthful seeming crap that you’ll never be able to tell it apart.
