Napster’s Fanning bids for The Pirate Bay
p2pnet news view Freedom | P2P:- John Fanning, the American uncle to Napster creator Shawn Fanning, and the ex-chairman and CEO of Napster, wanted to buy The Pirate Bay, the Swedish indexing service whose owners have just been ordered by a Dutch court to shut the site down, or pay $42,300 per day in penalties.
“Sweden`s Global Gaming Factory X is currently in the process of acquiring TPB and if it succeeds, is thinking about renaming itself as â The Pirate Bay,” said p2pnet earlier, going on:
“Internet file sharing expert Wayne Rosso was working with GGF but recently decided he wanted nothing further to do with the deal or the company.”
The Pirate Bay deal will be concluded on August 27 and according to a press release, says the story, a legalisation plan has been worked out and will be put into effect on the day of the purchase, said Radio Sweden
The board is, now calling its shareholders to an extraordinary general meeting to have the purchase validated, states the story, saying a group of investors would add another 4 million US dollar to the purchase sum.
Now, “Pirate Bay has attracted interest from at least one other veteran of the file-sharing business: John Fanning, the former chairman of online music trading pioneer Napster and uncle of the site’s founder, Shawn Fanning,” says the Los Angeles Times, quoting Global Gaming CEO Hans Pandeya (right) as the source of the news.
Fanning, “explored a potential investment in the Pirate Bay purchase, according to Pandeya,” it says.
