Google wanted feedback

p2pnet.net News:- Google says it wants feedback on its ‘We’re Completely Innocent’ stance on news blocks in China.

Here you go, Google.

Now read on >>>>>>>>>>>>

Open letter to Google.
To whom it may concern:

‘For Internet users in China, we had to consider the fact that some sources are entirely blocked. Leaving aside the politics, that presents us with a serious user experience problem.’

No it’s not.

Haven’t you ever heard of ssh? Have you ever heard of web-based proxies? If you’ve been following any of the countless China-based blogs based in the PRC you’ll know that that’s how we surf. It’s not full-proof, but it works 80% of the time.

There is still as of yet no one place for people interested in Chinese current affairs to go to. Google News Chinese version acts like the big brother that the government tries to be by purposely obscuring independent opinions. You say it’s only two percent of the available sources. Well, when the government controls 98 percent of the media outlets, that’s number two digit is a pretty substantial number.

I work and live in the PRC and am aghast at how many times westerners are willing to lower their standards to despicable levels just in having contact with the country. I am equally baffled at the new inventions foreigners come up with for justifying their kowtow floor-board crawling.

If Google isn’t interested in creating a website that will allow anybody, no matter where they are, to search for news in the Chinese language without worrying about blocking, then I am.

Stay tuned.

If you’re Chinese and you’re looking for a way to access independent Internet news sources, try Freegate, the DIT program written to help Chinese citizens circumvent website blocking outside of China.

The government doesnt wanna people to browse porn sites and anti China sites. If Google did not block such sites, the government would complete prevent users within china from using Google. Now, we can still use google instead of losing it completely.

  2. Reader's Write Says:

Nooooooo NOT GOOGLE? You mean that great American bastion of capitalist values is censoring content? George Bush keeps reminding us America stands for exporting freedom and democracy throughout the world. Are you saying one of America’s shiniest corporations is committing treason? Shame on me for being a naive Canadian.

  3. Reader's Write Says:

You forget they also like to export war.
    And to import oil.

All in the name of democracy *cough*money*cough
    and freedom *cough*control*cough*.

  4. Reader's Write Says:

Yep I think that Google complied to chinese government request in order to keep it’s access to chinese surfers. Otherwise Beijing would ban Google and the search engine would lose it’s chinese clients, a big victory for it’s rivals…

  5. Reader's Write Says:

If you mostly surf by tunnelling through ssh or open proxies, why don’t you just browse to the google news page through the same proxies and find all the news sources you want.

  6. Reader's Write Says:

What you do with Google is really none of my business. Afterall you first duty is to you stockholders.

Until something better comes along I will use Google. So you duty to me and your stockholders is to be the best. Don’t slip, keep looking back, there are others trying very hard to do a better job than you are.

My only suggestion is that you post a message in the form of a (Bar) that the sight we are talking about, or anywhere in the web, sensors all out going and incoming messages. Write it in clear Big Bold Red letters. “Goverment Sensored Site”

I’m sure Americans, such as I, would think twice about trusting any information coming from that side. We are not your children. we are. Just provide us with the information please. We will get from it what we deserve. Ralph McCarthy
