John Quincy Adams on Twitter

p2pnet news view | Cool:- … the pressure of preparation increases upon us as the day approaches, and this day engaged every moment of our time.” And, “I received this morning from the Secretary of State, a letter, enclosing the credential to the Emperor of Russia …”

Because as of today, John Quincy Adams, sixth President of the United States who served from March 4, 1825, to March 4, 1829, is tweeting on Twitter.

And No, his spirit hasn’t been mysteriously raised.

Instead, entries by Adams, “beginning with his journey to Russia on 5 August 1809,” are being given The Bird by the Massachusetts Historical Society.

“Back in late May I wrote a post here titled “Was JQA a Tweeter?,” in which I noted a visitor’s observation of the similarities between John Quincy Adams’ line-a-day diary entries and the micro-blog posts produced on Twitter,” says Jeremy Dibbell in the society’s The Beehive, going on »»»

Well, that got the wheels spinning here at MHS, and when we realized that JQA begins a long series of line-a-day entries on 5 August 1809 as he departs on his voyage to Russia (where he would serve as the first American ambassador), we decided some opportunities are just too good to pass up.

Now Adams’ line-a-day diary will be showing up on Twitter, “one per day exactly 200 years later”.
