It’s a first, says Casio
p2pnet.net News:- IBM proudly boasts a biometric fingerprint reader in its new ThinkPad T42, and now Casio says it has the world’s first combined LCD screen and fingerprint scanner.
Still under development, it’s a, "layer of optical sensors on a 0.7 millimeter-thick sensor substrate, which in turn sits on top of a conventional TFT LCD," says the IDG News Service, quoting Yasuo Mochizuki, deputy general manager of Casio’s device division..
The story also points out that some cell phones in Japan already use fingerprint scanners to provide added data protection.
