The Pirate Bay: a mini Borg?

p2pnet news view Freedom | P2P:- Is Global Gaming Factory (GGF) trying to become a mini Borg?

Amid a morass of unanswered questions about investment, participation, intentions and even whether or not it’s in a position to  assimilate The Pirate Bay, the company is already casting about in other directions.

Its TPB buy will be concluded by August 27, CEO Hans Pandeya (right) has promised and when, and if, that happens, GGF, “will set their sights on other torrent sites, in the hope of expanding their business even further,” says TorrentFreak, going on:

“As if the plans for the Pirate Bay haven’t generated enough publicity and controversy,” Pandeya is, “already preparing his next move,” says the story, which has hin declaring:

“Aside from The Pirate Bay, the company aims to take over several other larger torrent sites.

“We will try to buy as many torrent sites as possible.”

Then, Pandeya told TorrentFreak, GGF — which has also said it’ll change its name to The Pirate Bay — hopes to, “turn these sites into large media stores where users can download content with the full permission of copyright holders”.

According to Hans Pandeya, “there are plenty of investors who are willing to partner with the company, and the entertainment industry is also following the latest developments with great interest,” says the story, adding:

“The real problem for GGF is one of a different nature. They can buy dozens of sites and cut deals with all the big movie studios and record labels, but they have to find a way to keep downloading free, or at least dirt cheap. If they can’t pull this off, their newly acquired userbase will flock to the next torrent site in a snap.”

So I guess all those users of the Pirate Bay are following this with great interest as well?
I seriously doubt it. And what is your site without users? Nothing.
You can talk about the entertainment industry is following this with great interest all you want, but without users, the wheels won’t turn.
What kind of weed are these people smoking?

  3. Dreddsnik Says:

    The pattern continues.

    1. Buy lawmakers and Judges.

    2. Sue for a ridiculous amount of money, and win ( see 1 )

    3. Make an offer the Victim can’t refuse.

    4. Turn purchased property into a wasteland of corporate lameness.

  4. NO1UNO Says:

while i agree with what Dredd has in the 4 points… i’m thinking there should be a #5

    5. Give some lame ass company the money to “buy” all the torrent sites in an attempt to end filesharing that way!

    as always, stw :)
