Knock, Knock. Who’s There? Rogers.
p2pnet news view P2P:- “This is one of these stories that I have to sit there and scratch my head,” says p2pnet World Headlines compiler Marc.
It’s like a shaggy dog story.
A frustrated homeowner posted a story on the Digital Home Rogers Cable forum, along with a blow-by-blow pictorial account, of his recent experience with a Rogers Contractor, says Marc.
The poster, HDTV101, emphasises, “First of all I don’t have any services from Rogers, no Cable TV, no Internet, no Home Phone,” and goes on »»»
There is a knock at my door today around 1 PM. My 76 year old mother answers the door and this Subcontractor from Rogers advises that they are here to ‘fix’ our Cable. She then tells him that we don’t have any services from Rogers. The guy insisted that we do. My Mother then told him not to do anything until I get home. I was there in 10 minutes and was shocked to see what was going on. They had cut the driveway and had run a cable line up to my house. When I asked them what are they doing the guy said “Fixing your cable Sir”
I told him I don’t have any Rogers services and he said “Yes you must have something … Phone? Internet? Cable?” I told him “No you guys and mixed up here or this is a JOKE”.
I said to the guy “did you look in the box on the side of my house? Look and you will see it’s not connected to anything”
I call him over and rip the cover off showing him the 2 unconnected wires he then looks very puzzled. He then said “well the work order said this address” I asked to see the work order he showed it to me on the computer in his truck sure enough it was my address … but there was no name. The reason for the rewire the work order claimed was “Low signal, Leakage” Well how can a line that that even connected to anything be ‘leaking RF?’
Rogers is so mixed up then have no clue what’s going on anymore … its gotten to a point that it’s scary! I’m wondering is this just a mistake or is someone at Rogers trying to harass me.
There are pictures of the whole mess available here. You’ll note that in this picture, the dude has a Bell ExpressVU dish. So that confirms that he at the very least doesn’t get TV from Rogers.
Now to be fair, the law (specifically the CRTC) requires Rogers and other cable providers in Canada to deal with signal leakage issues. I’ve had a visit from a Rogers contractor in that regard in the past. I have no problem with that at all. But to dig up a NON-CUSTOMER’S driveway when someone has told them not to do anything until the homeowner arrives seems off the wall to me.
Methinks Rogers needs to keep a tighter reign on the contractors that they use and Rogers needs to do their homework on what needs to be done on a service call before sending a contractor out to fix an issue.
In the meantime, I hope Rogers has a good explanation for this whole mess and how they’re going to make things right with the homeowner.
But, “I suppose that it could have been worse though,” adds the post.
“If it were Comcast, the house would have blown up or something.”
Stay tuned.

UPDATE: We just had an email from Rogers’ Rob Manne saying, “I read your post regarding the thread below. Just wanted to let you know that user HDTV101 has updated the thread here: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=110313&page=3” wherein we find a fulsome Thank You to Rogers for fixing their unnamed contractor’s monumental mess.

I’ll give Bell credit, they at least come to the door before messing with your crap. That’s all the credit they will get from me though.
At least Rogers didn’t do too badly a job with the driveway patching. Still, that line is going to heave soon enough.
It should be noted, the Expresvu dish in the pic is missing its LNB so probably isn’t all that effective.

If it was me, I’d demand that they pay to have the driveway 100% restored. If they didn’t, I’d sue them for destruction of private property.

Doesnt look like that big of a mess. Actually pretty neat compared to some work if you can call it that from Bell. A little grass seed and your all good.. What’s with the dish on the ground? Too much work to mount it on the roof? Also without the LNB it aint workin so relax now if you deside to get decent interenet you will be able to get it as we know DSL (DOG SLOW LINE) from bell sucks!!! Don’t sweat the little stuff,, Grandma has a beautiful lawn still….

^^ “monumental mess” figuratively rather than literally.
And if you think that’s little stuff …
Cheers!

oh my gosh “mess” – 1/4 inch trench between the curb and the driveway, that’s it? What if the whole neighborhood is sitting without cable because your 50 yrs. old one was leaking RF into the ground. Rogers is getting ready to introduce DOCSIS 3 advanced technology with super fast internet on August 18 – they have to fix all leakages now, even if you don’t have any service.
At least they fixed what they did. I see the guy putting some black stuff into the trench.
Somebody before was giving bell a credit – you won’t see them messing up anything because they are no longer here with us, they exported all jobs to India. If you don’t believe me, call bell and see who you get after talking to Emily. Try schedule a maintenance appointment. After 5 times of no show you will agree with me.

Same thing happened to me today. This is the second time for me. I know – first hand – what this does to the driveway over time. It doesn’t look bad but it will kill the driveway in a few seasons because the dirt strip soaks up water like a sponge. Winter freeze/thaw… Sad that some people don’t know or care about home maintenance. Rogers should have done the job properly.
