And like Jammie Thomas-Rassett, who’s currently appealing civil jury decision that she owes the Korporate Kopyright Klan $1.92 million for 24 songs, he’s expected to pay a hefty price for their failure.
Only it’s not as bad as Jammie’s play list price.
It’s only $675,000 for 30.
He richly deserves being forced into bankruptcy at the at the age of 25 by the Big 4 record label components of the Korporate Kopyright Klan !

I’m not Joel. I’ve never seen him. I don’t even live in the same country and I barely speak his language. But I had enough.
Many countries have their own “RIAA”. Many people across the globe are being threatened just because they downloaded and shared their favorite songs or movies. It is said that they cause a tremendous harm to the music and movie industries and therefore to the artists. But the truth is that they don’t.
The truth is that the entertainment industries are more successful than ever. Every sharing works as an ad to the particular music or movie and they have huge profits. But of course they are greedy and they want more.
The truth is that downloading doesn’t hurt the artists. They are bound by the companies and they don’t even have the freedom anymore to share their creation freely with anybody. The copyright system that was created to protect them from the powerful, became corrupted and made them the slaves of those tyrants.
The truth is that those who only want to share the joy, the experience and the knowledge with others are being made bankrupt just because their most human intentions are believed to be against the greed of some faceless companies.
I’m not a communist. I do believe that all the artists have the right to be paid. I believe that every other person and group who helped the artists to create it have the right to be paid. But I don’t believe in tyranny, I don’t believe that sharing would be a capitol crime, I don’t believe it’s acceptable to ruin the life of any folks because of it, so: I don’t believe in copyright anymore.
That’s why I finally decided to make a move. I wanted to let the RIAA know that I too downloaded those songs. I wanted to let them know: they cannot fight the sharing with violence. We will download. We will share. If we like something, we willingly pay for it if there is a way to support the artists and their staff with it. But we won’t be scared.
We won’t let them ruin our life slowly, one by one. If they want to change it, they have to talk, they have to think, they have to come out with better ideas. But no matter how strong they are, how much they want to hunt us down, we won’t stop downloading and we won’t stop sharing.
So help us, help yourself with downloading and seeding the songs Joel downloaded and shared.
Show that from now on, every time somebody is attacked because of sharing something, we will share it too.
Let them know that all they can achieve is more and more people sharing.
Stay tuned
(Cheers, The Saint)

$675,000 for 30 tunes!
Sounds like a steal. Where do I buy them.

Hmmm……I’d like to know what the artists themselves have to say about this travesty, and whether or not they’ll support the court’s decision. As I recall, both NIN and Limp Bizkit support filesharing, or at the very least do not agree with suing music fans as a deterrant. And I’m sure Green Day, RATM, The Fugees, The Outcast, et al wouldn’t support their record labels’ actions either.

This just confirms what alot of us here have been talking about. The MAFIASS efforts are doing nothing more than push people into reacting in the opposite direction. They are creating more filesharing!! It’s obvious at this point that they will only figure it out after their “industry” is dead and gone, sitting around some boardroom table asking each other “Where TF did we go wrong?” So, rest in HELL RIAA/MPAA/BIG4 we WONT miss you!

“The Streisand effect is a phenomen on on the Internet where an attempt to censor or remove a piece of information backfires, causing the information to be widely publicized. Examples are attempts to censor a photograph, a file, or even a whole website, especially by means of cease-and-desist letters. Instead of being suppressed, the information sometimes quickly receives extensive publicity, often being widely mirrored across the Internet …….” — http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streisand_effect

If the tunes are so valuable can we pay off the RIAA with a good old mixed tape ?

Out of spite I downloaded all 20 artists discographies. I guess thats 675 000 x (avg 85 songs x 20 artists). This took less than 30 minutes. Bankrupt 1 guy, congrats. The rest of us who are out of the DMCA jurisdiction are laughing at the big 4. Im trying to think of a good use for all this music considering I dont even like much if any of it. Maybe CBC’s idea of drop a mix cd in random heavily populated locations might be a better plan. That way innocent people are picking up Joel’s playlist and learning about his story. Rather then simply file sharers.

woops ($22 500 x (avg 85 songs x 20 artists))
August 8th, 2009 at 10:28 pm
Notice how The Goo Goo Dolls “Iris” are on both playlists? Maybe they’ll get $102,000 for their trouble! The again, they may not even get tree-fitty!!
And the boycott marches on!

I wonder, if anybody can actually get in contact with the bands & artists in this case & ask their opinion about this, if the MAFIAA suing their fans on their behalf is something they want to be associated with.

I hate everything but I am going to download these and start sharing on all the major p2p protocol networks including BT of course.

Their contracts prohibit them from doing , or saying anything but what their owners
allow.
That’s why the artist that speaks out against them is rare.
Nearly all of the ones that speak against this practice are no longer signed, or haven’t been
in years.

The idea that anything that Eminem recorded is worth even $0.01 is laughable.

I doubt kurt cobain would approve. scum record companies. going after the users and not the suppliers. but the suppliers can afford real lawyers so they go after the users whom they can nail to the wall with there 50 lawyers against there court appointed one. 30 songs shared, how will the record companies ever survive, maybe they should get a bailout

@Neil Down and Ben Dover
The artists receive nothing out of the litigation. The revenue goes to the labels AFTER litigation, Administration and Lunch costs are deducted.
However, notwithstanding that Joel doenst have the wherewithal, you (if you live in America) will be paying via the tax deduxction the labels will get for an uncollected bad debt.
