Britain has its own Pirate Party: official
p2pnet news view | P2P | Politics:- To the Korporate Kopyright Klans, Pirate Parties were something to be laughed at.
A joke.
But not any more —- not since the Swedish Pirate Party sent elected Pirate Party MEP Christian Engström to the European Parliament.
“A couple of years ago, it would have seemed inconceivable that a group of upstarts would have been able to generate enough political power to put a spike in the guns of the multi-billion-dollar music and movie industries,” said p2pnet.
But it happened in Sweden. And if it happened there, “it could also happen elsewhere”.
And now Britain has its own official Pirate party and it’s, “here to stay for as long as it is needed,” says epriezka in the PPUK blog, going on »»»
At the end of last month, the Electoral Commission confirmed the registration. You can see the PPUK entry on the official register.

The paperwork is done. The website has been developed (thanks to a tremendous job from Gavin and co). We have put the legal and banking necessities in place. Now the party needs you. Yes, I know you were there for the party all along, but now you really can join this real political party.
We are not talking about getting a password to use a website, or joining a group on Facebook, but becoming a member of a real political party that can field real election candidates.
Thanks to those of you who have joined already, without a moment’s hesitation. Everyone else, follow the link and become a member – you will find it under ‘the party’ at the top of the screen. You do not want to miss out on a lifetime of bragging that you were a member from the very beginning. We are about to set sail and it is time to climb aboard. It is going to be one heck of a journey.
As Mahatma Gandhi said, “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”

The UK Pirate Party is currently led by a load of lily livered landlubbers trying to organise a piss up in a ginger beer factory, but hopefully they’ll eventually figure out aft from stern, and rum from bilge water.
