Sony bans Windows 7 XP on some VAIOs
p2pnet news view Products | Freedom:- If you’re about to buy a new Sony Vaio laptop with the expectation of using Microsoft XP virtualization technology in Windows 7, you might want to think again.
Because Sony won’t be enabling the hardware virtualisation technology needed to operate XP mode in the upcoming Windows 7 release.
“Sony have voiced concerns that running VT would expose it’s system to ‘malicious code that could go very deep in the operating system structure’,” says unbeatable.co.uk, going on:
“That said Sony have tried to resolve the issue by stating they will be enabling Intel’s Virtual Technology, which will run Windows XP mode in Windows 7, [but] unfortunately this function will only be available with selected VAIO models with a higher ticket price.”
Says The Register »»»
The consumer electronics giant has said it will enable Intel’s Virtual Technology (VT), which supports Windows XP Mode in the forthcoming Windows 7, only on selected Sony Vaio models in the future. The Z series Vaio – priced $1,719 – won’t be one of the machines selected.
Until then, Vaio Z users join everybody else buying one of 10 Vaio PC brands that will also be incapable of running Windows 7’s Windows XP Mode.
“That means customers whose old Windows XP applications don’t work with Windows 7 will find their software unlikely to run on Windows 7,” the story adds.

Another reason not to buy Sony. As if the memory stick and batteries weren’t bad enough.

What just like a rootkit??

now we will have to Jail break our Vaio’s with custom BIOS.

Just another scam to make people who need the VT buy the expensive versions of Sonys crappy
hardware. And consider this, if its “dangerous” to use it on the cheap one, why is it “safe” to use
on the high end models??

I’ve come up with a brilliant alternative way to have the XP environment on these (or any) machines…
Simply install Windows XP!
[bows repeatedly]
I know, sheer genious, I know!
I don’t know how I keep coming up with these things!
