Spyware bills pass Go

p2pnet.net News:- Two anti-spyware bills were overwhelming approved by the House of Representatives, but still face a tough race to get Senate approval before Congress disperses for the November elections.

"The House on Wednesday voted 415-0 on a bill that would send some spyware users to jail for up to five years," continues the Washington Post. "On Tuesday, the House approved a second bill in a 399-1 vote that would fine individuals and companies every time they install spyware on people’s computers without permission.

Joe Barton, who sponsored the latter bill, said he’ll call on senators for their support and that Congress could send it to president Bush before the end of the week.

The Post also quotes John Dingell, senior Democrat on the Energy and Commerce Committee, as saying Democratic and Republican lawmakers are eager to get a bill to the White House.

The Senate version includes civil and criminal penalties while the House bills deal with them separately, says the report, adding:

"The Senate bill is also less specific than the civil bill passed in the House, which lays out in considerable detail the way in which companies must inform consumers about what’s being placed on their computers. Both would rely on the Federal Trade Commission to enforce anti-spyware rules."

Ok, so there’s no site comment zone,
    so I’m posting offtopic… sorry…

Rotating banners being much worst than static ones,
I do not like the idea of seeing such things on p2pnet.

    It is obviously your site,
but surely there are other options.
I for one would rather see 4 static banners
    than one blinking annoyingly.

I’m not saying I’ll block the images from loading if they rotate,
but you’ve convinced me to block the javascript feature
    to change images.

Mozilla, after all, gives the power back to the web surfers.

Hi – where would I put four static banners?

Otherwise, I hate to put ANY ads up and if I could figure out how not to, I wouldn’t have any adds up at all.

I pay for the site myself, and I’m here 24/7. I’m not rich, I don’t have any other income.

Only one person has clicked the donations button. So – I do what I have to do to keep p2pnet going.

i agree. p2pnet should not have banners. one of the reasons i like it is because it is clean
