Will Pirate Bay deal hurt the Pirate Party?

p2pnet news view | P2PPolitics:- Will the Pirate Bay deal cost Sweden’ s Pirate Party valuable support?

There’ s no question it was able to secure a place in the European parliament because of Pirate Power — the fact it’s closely linked in so many ways to The Pirate Bay,  the once independent Swedish indexing site sadly destined to become just another Big 4 music ’service’.

Its popularity flowed directly from the thousands of TPB fans to whom the site represented openness and freedom.

Now, it’ll be standing not only in next year’s general election, but will also be represented in local council elections, says The Local.

Leader Rick Falkvinge  is quoted as saying, “The Pirate Party is needed to protect citizens’ integrity and private lives against surveillance-minded and information-gathering populist authorities, even on a local political level.”

Nothing new there.

But with TPB to be scarfed up the Global Gaming Factory in a move apparently supported by major elements of the  Korporate Kopyright Klans, with all that implies, will the Pirate Parties not only in Sweden and elsewhere become sullied by association?

And if so, will it significantly diminish their drawing power?

Stay tuned.

honestly don’t think it will hurt it at all, look at the steam the movement is making around the world, i get notifications of general meetings in canada atleast once a week on the fb group. Even on the most basic level, this may finally be a party that the majority of people under the age of 30 can identify with, hell they have my vote if they ever run in an election here. The whole movement is begining to snowball, and will continue to as long as the **aa’s keep trying to force an iron grip on everything.
