Microsoft, Yahoo, Amazon vs Google

p2pnet news view | Advertising:- A lethal internecine war has developed between Google and fellow predators Amazon, Microsoft and Yahoo.

The latter have launched what they’re calling the Open Book Alliance against the former, with, ironically, the non-profit Internet Archive out front.

The Internet Archive (IA) — also known as the Wayback Machine — is dedicated to building and maintaining a free and openly accessible online digital library, including an archive of the World Wide Web, says the Wikipedia.

Gargle, Microsloth, Yodel and Armazon are, of course, dedicated solely to building profits for their shareholders.

For them, openness and accessibility are in many instances to be actively discouraged in the interests of enhancing the bottom line.

The strange bedfellows, “are dead set against a settlement reached last October between Google, the Association of American Publishers and the Authors Guild, says CNN Money, continuing »»»

The settlement would allow Google to display portions of books online and sell digital copies of them. Court approval of the agreement is pending.

Google’s online book initiative, called Google Books, has cataloged 1 million public domain books with expired copyrights. The tech giant’s settlement was reached after the publishers and authors associations sued Google for copyright infringement in late 2005 over the company’s plans to scan and copy millions of books from library collections — many of which are still under copyright.

The settlement would give authors and publishers $45 million whose copyrighted books are scanned without permission.

The Justice Department’s antitrust unit announced in April that it is looking into the settlement.

Google is, “trying to monopolise the library system,” the BBC has Internet Archive founder Brewster Kahle, saying, adding:

“If this deal goes ahead, they’re making a real shot at being ‘the’ library and the only library.”

It’s google’s eternal thirst for more money, more content, more personal data. It will only end when every bit of the web is assimilated into google.

Do no evil? Lol. They must be joking. I prefer “trust no one”.

on this issue i hope google looses and gets one up the @#$.
something like this should be run by a non-profit and should contain no advertising, google, yahoo and MS could index the site and add them to their search engines (if they choose to do so)
