BSA parodies To Catch a Predator
p2pnet news view | Advertising:- The BSA (Business Software Alliance) isn’t exactly known for accuracy when it comes to statistics on piracy.
In fact, Britain’s famous The Economist once ran a story entitled BSA or just BS in which it questioned the veracity of a then new ‘independent’ BSA study.
Now the unit, funded by such worthies as Apple and Microsoft, and a, “counterpart to the Recording Industry Association of America and the Motion Picture Association of America,” has parodied the Dateline series ‘To Catch a Predator’ in an anti-piracy video, says Wired.
It uses comedy to convey what is a serious message, the story has Peter Beruk, the BSA`s chief anti-piracy marketeer saying with a straight face.
It`s experimental.
Like the TV show that, “nabs real-life child perverts via fake propositions, a man dressed as a pirate is foiled the same way in the ad,” says the story.
Parrot a television broadcast specifically designed catch sick criminals who target children?
Nice.

DEAR GOD WHY??????!!!!!!!
I wasn’t sure whether or not this was for real, but then I took a look at some of the BullShit Alliance’s official videos. http://www.youtube.com/user/BusinessSftAlliance
Honestly, how can these idiots expect anyone to take them seriously? You think they’d learn from their abomination called “Don’t Copy That Floppy”, or the fact that no consumer is stupid enough to buy into that propaganda about piracy supporting terrorism, drug cartels, etc. These ads are not funny or clever, and have no truth to them at all. They are nothing but money wasted. If they think we, the consumers, are going to give them any sympathy for having our intelligence insulted, they’re even more full of shit than I thought.

I doubt they cost must money to make. They are cheesy because they know stupid ads stick in the brains of people. Remember Leon’s Ho Ho Hold the Payments commercials with Santa having a seat in a chair that falls apart and the cookies and milk fly all over? Stupid? Yes, but memorable? Absolutely, and that’s all they want.
Metallicops is equally stupid but more truthful, in a satirical way, than anything these guys could do. “Napster Napster, watcha gonna do? Watcha gonna do when we come for you?” and “Napster baaad, beer gooood”

I think a point missed here is that people like Microsoft, Apple, ect, really do look at pirates as being on the same level as a child molester. In fact, if given a choice they would probably prefer Chester the Molester walked free rather than Blackbeard the Software Pirate.

Well, we know that Betamax is as bad the Boston Strangler, so comparing software piracy to child molestation isn’t that much of a stretch.

Heh, kinda mirrors how people are starting to feel about corporations, hmm?
Last time I checked, it wasn’t p2p ‘pirates’ rendered Picher Oklahoma completely uninhabitable.
