Windows ‘Beckham’ virus
p2pnet.net News:- If you’re a footie fan in the UK - or anywhere else, for that matter - you might have come across a site offering pix of England captain David Beckham being naughty.
But if you visit the site, you could be the one in a compromised position because it’s used to launch a virus that affects Microsoft Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT and XP
“Tennis player Anna Kournikova, popstars Britney Spears and Avril Lavigne as well as Arnold Schwarzenegger have all been used in the past to try to con people into opening infected files,” says the Beeb, continuing:
“The huge amount of interest in Mr Beckham and his private life and the large number of messages posted to discussion groups on the net might mean that the malicious program catches a lot of people out.”
But the messages aren’t the danger.
The threat comes from the website they mention and anyone who DLs and opens the infected pic file stored there will be caught.
“The program that installs itself is called the Hackarmy trojan and it tries to recruit PCs into so-called ‘bot networks that are often used to distribute spam mail messages or to launch attacks across the web,” adds the BBC.
