Paris shelves Linux
p2pnet.net News:- Paris doesn’t seem about to follow the lead of Munich and other cities in dumping Microsoft in favour of Linux – for now, anyway.
Although it, "intends to reduce its dependence on software suppliers with ‘de facto monopolies," an immediate switch to open source was ruled out given the aging state of many of the city’s computers, says the IDG News Service
Elected officials on Tuesday discussed a report on the economics of migrating to open source software and accepted its recommendation of a "gradual opening of the city’s IT systems to alternative suppliers," says IDG, adding:
"They decided the city should be prepared to take control of its own software development, and should reduce its dependence on individual IT suppliers".

Wow. I guess that M$ offered them a huge discount, eh?
Idiots. They had a chance to support Mandrake — thereby supporting a local industry, but instead surrendered to an American Monopoly.
At least they left the door a smidgeon open.
