The Pirate Bay sinks — ’4ever’

p2pnet news view Freedom | P2P:- “piratebay down and stays down,” says a p2pnet Reader’s Write.

“piratebay down again,” says another. “This time 4evah.”

We’ ve been receiving emails saying the same thing since early this morning.

“Following the earlier court defeat for Fredrik, Gottfrid and Peter and the pending civil action taken by several Hollywood studios, the Swedish authorities have now ordered The Pirate Bay to be disconnected from the Internet,” says TorrentFreak.

“The site`s bandwidth suppliers have been threatened with a large fine. The site is completely offline. Today, Stockholm`s district court took action to completely remove The Pirate Bay from the Internet.

“The court ordered the site`s major bandwidth supplier, Black Internet, to disconnect TPB from the Internet or face penalties of 500,000 kroner ($70,600). The ISP complied, saying that it had no choice but to uphold the law.”

The shut down just another escalation in the TPB wars as Sweden`s Global Gaming Factory CEO Hans Pandeya tries to convince the entertainment cartels — and shareholders — his company is still in a position to buy the world’s most famous indexing site.

However, it’s been evident almost since the first day that  the likelihood of GGF being able to back up its promises and statements with hard cash was slim indeed.

On Saturday, “That unpleasant gurgling sound you hear is the Good Ship Pirate Bay foundering,” said p2pnet, continuing »»»

The supposed sale of TPB to Sweden`s Global Gaming Factory has been reported by some TPB supporters as golden, as all-but done, despite early warnings that everything in the garden wasn`t perhaps as rosy as company CEO Hans Pandeya wanted people to believe.

Other people have, however, been far less sanguine.

P2P entrepreneur Wayne Rosso was, for example, to have helped GGF win licenses from Hollywood and the Big 4 record labels.

But, Red flags started popping up quickly and often,  he told p2pnet …

Now, new questions have been arisen, says The Local.

“Magnus Bergman submitted his resignation to the Swedish Companies Registration Office (Bolagsverket) on Friday, according to a report in Svenska Dagbladet (SvD),”   It says, going on:

“Bergman’s resignation is the latest in a series of setbacks to befall GGF after the previous departures of board member Johan Sällström and adviser Wayne Rosso.

“According to Peter Gönczi, the CEO of market exchange Aktietorget, where GGF stock is listed, the resignation of the chairman is an additional obstacle for the resumption of trading in the company’s shares.”

Stay tuned.

The pirate bay is not down. Hundreds of people downloaded the entire pirate bay index. So the pirate bay lives on in that form.

  2. Cynix Says:

This is a sad day indeed. Proves once again that corruption and money give great power to those who possess it. :(

The net is closing in, as I have been saying for some time, but no one seems to listen. A couple more of these high profile shutdowns and free file sharing for all will become difficult indeed, as no-one will want to operate a site like this and get nailed for it. These people are vulnerable, regardless of the legal merit of the corrupt cartels’ prosecution case, because they can force these sites off the internet and the operators to get nailed by paying the right people in government lots of expensive backhanders.

This is a bad time for civil liberties on the internet.

  3. kylekatarn Says:

    Agree with cynix.

I guess someone has received a LARGE BRIBE today in order to this mass censorship take place…

  4. Rabbit80 Says:

TPB is not down… use OpenDNS ;)

    “Wireless TPB
The good people at the MAFIAA decided to sue. Not TPB, not the owners of TPB. Not even TPBs ISP. They decided to sue TPBs ISPs ISP.

And you know what? They won. They made a court believe their #lies and they made them force the ISPs ISP to shut down access to TPB.

TPB can be compared to the organisation that builds the roads for cars to drive on. The ISP can be compared to the organisation that creates the asphalt for the roads. The ISPs ISP can be compared to the organisation that creates the tools needed to the asphalt to be created. You would normally not sue that organisation if a car speeds.

The MAFIAA has spent millions of dollars and endless amounts of time to get this ban in order. Our guess is that they also bribed a bit to get it since it violates so many laws not only in Sweden but also in the EU, not to mention violations against human rights. And what do they have to show for it? 3 hours of partial downtime.

Just use Opendns as (one of) your DNS servers:

    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220

Check opendns.com for more info. Thepiratebay is still online :)

‘Shut up and start a revolution.’

Could stand to be true in many aspects these days.

    RIP TPB!!!
    Isohunt here I come

  22. Cynix Says:

IsoHunt are next. I saw the founder interviewed on TV the other day and he said that they want to go “legit”. Yup, another site going down the pan.

Not long now before we’re left left with nothing but lame corporate shells of our favorite sites.

  23. cyberscan Says:

Maybe it is time to start posting torrents on newsgroups. How will they shut that down. It is the mostly widespread used ways of downloading that gets nicked. As long as there is an Internet, there will be filesharing. Even if the Internet as we know it is wiped out, there will STILL be filesharing. The cartels need to face it. They are losing. They can purchase one “law” or court ruling after another, but it will only keep growing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usenet is a good place to read about usenet. There are many good usenet readers out there to be had. Hopefully, someone will upload the Pirate Bay torrent index to a usenet server so that the site will live on.

Maybe it is time for a bureaucrat registry much like the sex offender registry. Only the thing is, bureaucrats pose more of a danger to free people than sex offenders do.

  24. catflap Says:

    TPB is back online!
