CHEK-TV closure looms
p2pnet news view P2P | TV:- There’s only a week to go before CHEK-TV, based in Victoria, BC’s capital, theoretically closes down after more than 50 years, p2pnet reported last month.
We say ‘theoretically’ because although August 31 is the deadline, staff on the receiving end of pink slips want to save the station.
Canwest Global Communications Corp says CHEK, BC’s oldest indie TV broadcaster, has to go but, “CHEK-TV employees have raised $500,000 in a Harmac-inspired bid to become owners of the Victoria-based television station where they work,” said Canwest, going on:
“Staffers have pledged the money in a bid to buy the station before it closes at the end of the month. The effort has support from their union and follows a presentation from Levi Sampson, who led an employInee takeover at the Harmac pulp mill in Nanaimo.
“Most of the CHEK’s 45 employees agreed to buy $15,000 shares to pool funds for a 25 per cent share in a new company to operate the station. The balance would be held by outside investors.”
CHEK reporter Kendall Hanson hoped a closure could be averted, “but has concerns about whether the deal will be allowed,” said an earlier Canwest shortly after the news broke
“I’m not 100 per cent sold that indeed Canwest-Global is thrilled about the idea of us being bought,” it had Hanson saying, adding:
“We’ve had interest from investors. Now I’m hoping there’s public pressure on both Global and the CRTC to get the deal going.”
Stay tuned.

“piratebay down again. This time 4evah”
What exactly does piratebay have to do with this story?
And who gives a shit about the piratebay?

“What exactly does piratebay have to do with this story?”
It’s probably the same blockhead that was posting the “first” messages.
(Pay no mind.)
