MPAA sues LAPD ‘pirate’
p2pnet.net News:- The MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) was “furious” when a judge gave a community service sentence to Julie Nelson, 52, after she’d been convicted of selling black-market DVDs.
Nelson is the Los Angeles Police Department captain who was convicted of making and selling copyright DVDs following what was described as a “joint undercover investigation” between the MPAA and Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
MPAA anti-piracy director John Malcolm described the sentence as “completely inadequate” and said, “Such an individual should receive a harsher sentence than an ordinary criminal, not a more lenient one,” says a San Francisco Chronicle item.
“Capt. Nelson is a disgrace to her badge, and her sentence is a miscarriage of justice.”
Not content to leave it at that, 11 studios are now suing Nelson and her boyfriend, Ed Monroy, for copyright infringement.
Los Angeles police recovered 259 bootleg movie copies when they searched Nelson’s office, vehicle and La Palma home in December 2003, says GoodBadCorrupt.com, going on that more than 2,600 similar discs were seized from the home of her boyfriend, Ed Monroy.
Nelson was sentenced in September to three years’ probation, a $1,000 fine and 200 hours of community service, did not return phone calls seeking comment. Monroy, who hasn’t been charged with a crime.
She’s currently the subject of an LAPD internal investigation and on suspension with pay, says GoodBadCorrupt, adding:
“At her sentencing, Nelson said she did not profit from the sale of the pirated movies. She said Monroy ran the production end, making the copies.”
The lawsuit says Nelson had investigated cases of pirated videos before becoming a police captain.

I never thought I’d ever agree with the MPAA, but I do here.

Whats really disgusting is how they let this woman off. If it had been you or me we’d have ended up in the slammer for life.

Captain Julie Nelson also had numerous complaints from African American Police Officers siting “she is a racist”. She was protected from her then boyfriend Deputy Chief David J. Gascon. No wonder David J. Gascon never became Chief of Police. This woman clearly sabotaged David Gascon’s career.

Gascon has been married for almost 30 years. I don’t think he and Nelson were boyfriend/girlfriend.

Please, who are you fooling. Gascon has had more than one girlfriend during his marriage. I’m sure he isn’t the only cop that has affairs. As for Julie Nelson ruining his career, I don’t know that it is true. However, it could have been that his little affair with Jessica Savage that prevented him from becoming chief. Just a little information to chew over.

First of all, Gascon did not have an affair with Jessica Savage, he had an affair with Tracie Savage, whom he left his wife for. He has had numerous affairs with other women during his “so called 30 year marriage”. But protecting Capt. Julie Nelson really was his downfall for becoming Chief of Police.

Julie Nelson did’nt even get the $250,000.00 fine that is posted for pirated DVD. After all this she is fighting to get her job back. What a loser.

Who are you kidding! Wake up and smell the coffee. David Gascon can’t keep his zipper closed. Of course Gascon and Nelson were boyfriend/girfriend, everyone knew they were doing it!

You’re nuts, no chance. You must be thinking of George Gascon. David Gascon must have retired five years ago! He was the best leader in the LAPD. They should be so luck to have him now!

George Gascon has never been romantically linked with Captain Julie Nelson, Jessica Savage or Tracy Savage.
