Europe ‘imploding iPhones’ panic

p2pnet news view | Mobiles:- Ex(im)ploding iPhones are causing alarm and despondency in Europe.

“The company has asked people to turn in the devices in question so they can be studied,” says Bloomberg News.

The pic on the right showing one that went up is from Technolgia21.com in Spain.

“”In all cases the glass cracked due to an external force that was applied to the iPhone,” the story has Apple Europe spokesman Alan Hely saying.

“There are no confirmed battery overheating incidents for iPhone 3GS and the number of reports we are investigating is in the single digits.”

French Trade Minister Herve Novelli today, “met with Michel Coulomb, Apple’s French marketing director, in Paris about an investigation by the country’s consumer protection agency into the iPhone ‘implosions’,” says the story.

Consumers in the UK, Holland and Sweden had reported similar problems, says the BBC, adding:

“On Tuesday, a 26-year-old security guard has claimed that he was hit in the eye with a glass shard when his iPhone screen cracked up.

“The recent cases prompted French watchdog DGCCRF to investigate the complaints. The European Commission also used its Rapex system to issue an alert to its 27 member states about the problem.

“Rapex is the EU rapid alert system for dangerous consumer products.”
