I just cannot find the faith to trust in my government anymore. What happened recently with the Sea Shepherd ship the Farley Mowat is a good example of the direction we're heading as a nation. This is what happens to form letters. Just like spam, they go in the bin. To play devil's advocate (not the poster) it's similar to every body working in the RIAA sending in an individual letter supporting their views. BTW a "notice and notice" approach ? If they are MP's, they can be guaranteed to be not voted for in the future, as clearly they do not care to represent their constituents. If they are regular gov employees doing what they are told, such as the provincial police in Quebec during the Montebello Security meeting in 2008, they we need to find the guilty party (much like Mr Stockwell Day was removed as Minister of Public Safety, sworn in as Minister of International Trade) and deal with them appropriately.
