CORRECTION to ‘Murdoch slags the Beeb’

p2pnet news view P2P:- NOTE: When you see Rupert Murdoch in this post, please think ‘James Murdoch’ instead. He’s also of News Corporation. I misreprested him, for which I am deeply sorry.

Twitter  friend sfsutcliffe set me straight from The Netherlands.

Thanks. :)

Jon

Meanwhile, as I said, this would be funny if it wasn’t so pathetic and sad.

Australian media zillionaire Rupert James Murdoch (he’s not the one on the left — that’s his dad), is doing his level best to buy up every major print and electronic news outlet he can lay his hands on.

Yet somehow, his son, James, feels able to complain a “dominant” BBC threatens independent journalism in the UK.

Rupert, not James, is the owner of Fux and the Wall Street Journal, as well as the Times and Sun in the UK, to name just four of his possessions, and now James is also attacking the UK government for regulating the media “with relish,” says the BBC.

“The expansion of state-sponsored journalism is a threat to the plurality and independence of news provision,” he told the Edinburgh Television Festival, according to the story.

The scope of the BBC’s activities and ambitions is “chilling”, James is quoted as saying.

The Beeb also has James (not Rupert) Murdoch declaring, “It is essential for the future of independent digital journalism that a fair price can be charged for news to people who value it.”

News Corporation, “has said it will start charging online customers for news content across all its websites,” the story adds.

“It may be the end of free korporate newz a la Murdoch, but the online world will continue to keep itself up to date without any help from him — and for free,” observed p2pnet recently.
