Big Music’s Smiling Skull

p2pnet news view Freedom | P2P:- Copyright holders and more than 35 organizations  from, “many different cultural branches” are launching an online petition, “against the weakening of the copyrighted work,” says Aftenbladet.no under the headline, From skull to smile.

They include Vivendi Universal, EMI, Warner Music and Sony Music’s IFPI (International Federation of Phornographic Industry).

And in supreme irony, the corporate content groups are calling their campaign, ‘Share – don’t steal’.

The ‘petition’ will take the form of an advertisement published in Norwegian newspapers tomorrow and Thursday, says the story.

Ragnar Bjerkreim, chairman of the the Norwegian Society of Composers and Lyricists, is quoted as saying the ‘appeal’ is unique.

He was also Involved in Big Music’s 2007  “Piracy Kills Music” campaign, admitting it was, “relatively poorly received,” says Aftonbladet.

If you’re in Norway and you’re looking for a laugh, the  organisers are also planning to stage a meeting in Oslo.

No need to stay tuned.

(Cheers, Lars)

“Share – don’t steal” “Because we’re the only ones who can steal! We’re the copyright owners, stealing your money and stealing what is rightfully deserved by the artists because… we can!”

  2. Crosbie Fitch Says:

I think “Share – don’t steal” is precisely the philosophy that the Pirate Party should stand by.

Don’t steal music. Purchase it or be given it by friends. Once you’ve got it, share it.

The cartel is doing an excellent job of giving file-sharers great names and mottoes.

Perhaps we should find a motto for musicians?

    How about:
    “Make music, not manacles”
    “Music – made for sharing.”
“If music is the food of love, its monopoly is mass malnutrition.”

  3. Natanael L Says:

“Music – great for both entertaining people and messing with label owners”

  4. Reader's Write Says:

    ‘Share – don’t steal’

Translation: Do what I say not what I do petition campaign.

Now what about a petition calling for the eradication of all these music corporate parasites! using the same logo but in reverse from smiley to skull: “Share don’t buy” or “Spray don’t feed the parasites”

  5. normal1515 Says:

Fitch – I like the sound of “Music – Made for sharing”. Has a nice ring to it. I’m a pro-filesharing musician. Mind if I use that motto when promoting my own copyleft music?

  6. Crosbie Fitch Says:

Are you really sure you’re a pro-filesharing musician?

  7. Rabbit80 Says:

    “Motto’s – Made for sharing” ;)
