Verizon chops Usenet
p2pnet news view Advertising | P2P:- “Verizon has begun to notify customers informing them that newsgroup service provided by the company will cease by September 30th,” says News Demon, going on:
“Verizon had late last year discontinued access to a number of newsgroups. Many have speculated that this termination of service was imminent. Customers will continue to have access to post or view articles on the Verizon USENET newsgroup service until the termination date.”
That’s nice of Verizon.
But, No worries, says Giganews’ Liz Kintzele.
The company is offering special discounts on Giganews Usenet service for Verizon customers hit by the elimination.
She says Giganews is offering several special pricing options to affected Verizon customers:
- 50% off for three months of Giganews’ unlimited Diamond Plan.
- 20% off for three months of their choice of other Giganews plans
Verizon customers — or anone else — can also sign up for a 14 day free trial of the Giganews Usenet, says Kintzele.

Usenet: Best pirating service around!

I don’t know why people love torrents so much when Usenet is so much better for downloading movies and music.

1000:1 customers are going to loose the service without seeing a drop in the price of the service. I used to use usenet all the time, till my phone provider stopped giving it away for free and placed a 2 gig cap on it after that it was insanely expensive to even bother wasting my time. I since moved to emule and torrents, if there are some good recomendations for a free usenet service, that has decent retention I would go back to it. Call me cheap but I refuse to pay for anything if it can be helped. Especially if it was a service what was free with AT&T with cap , mind you that was a while ago

The picture above is outdated by almost a month, and Giganews current retention is a lot more than the 367 days indicated in the photo.
@ravensky: Just google “newsgroups $0 / month”
