BREIN boss Kuik’s property recycling efforts

p2pnet news view Freedom | P2P:- Tim Kuik is a linchpin of Hollywood and Big 4 record label efforts to paint people who share files with each other as unprincipled criminals and thieves.

But, alleges Dutch magazine Geenstijl, he, too, is a, “criminal who uses stolen stuff.”

The claim comes in a story, unearthed by TorrentFreak, and the quote is a Google translation of the original post.

In Kuik’s battle against pirates, “seized equipment is simply war booty,” says the Geenstijl story, going on his office was once that of a “Napster user,” his desk used to belong to a “newsgroup administrator,” and his Blackberry may have belonged to “Pirate Bay founders”.

The Google translation isn’t helpful on this point, so perhaps someone who speaks Dutch can clarify things.

Meanwhile, it’s good to see Kuik apparently committed to the recycling movement.

Definitely stay tuned

    translation from “geenstijl” :

Timmeh Kuik is a thief. a criminal using stolen goods.
normal people watch out to admit such a thing but Brein’s boss
    has no problem with that.

In the “Elsevier-rubriek” with the (in this case) ironic title ‘My goods’
he says he’s using a Sony Vaio laptop. he did not buy it, it has been
“confiscated once from a hacker”. So this is how this works…

in the battle against pirates, confiscated equipment is just loot.

The politie brings items to the “Dienst Domeinen”,
(#red: a dutch department taking care of all confiscated goods#)
but Timmeh Kuik drags those with him to his hiding place.

his desk chair belonged once to a Napster user.
his working desk belonged once to a newsgroup administrator.

his Blackberry seems to be stolen from one of the PirateBay founders.
its getting more and more clear what happens to the lost money from
    author rights organisations.

If you have seen episode n° 2-3 of “the IT crowd” (hardly recommended),
then the title “you wouldn’t download a laptop” seems to be quite clear.
you can watch the IT crowd episode entry here….http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JC5tp9OzXc8

ps : i didn’t translate any reactions as they are quite similar to what you should expect….or wouldn’t ya ?

  3. Reader's Write Says:

It says that he will have the seized items delivered to his home where he will search through to find stuff he wants. Things he doesn’t want is sold on or used as corporate gifts.

  4. Reader's Write Says:

He admitted the laptop in elsevier magazine (respected magazine), geenstijl (no style/class, a weblog) usually has a writing style where they extrapolate a signle event and speculate/redicule the people they write about. so his chair isn’t really from a napster user but ‘it could be’ his desk isn’t really from a newsgroup admin ‘but it could be’ etc etc etc they usually still bringing up a valid point though, when the police confiscates thing they get auctioned but brein aparently is allowed to keep / use thats whats taken?

  5. gappi Says:

I hope I can clear things up a bit.
The article refers to a small section from Elsevier magazine in which people tell about the electronic equipment they use.
Tim Kuik says the following about his laptop: ‘A very nice laptop. It was once confiscated from a hacker. I’d rather not give any more details, keeping in mind the people we generally deal with as a copyrights organisation’

The GeenStijl article basically goes on about Tim Kuik being a thief himself, because he apparently takes confiscated goods that are supposed to be state property for his personal use. They then insinuate that Kuik’s whole office might be full of stolen goods and give some fictional examples (desk, Blackberry etc.).

    Sony Vaio

‘A very nice Laptop, it has once been seized from a hacker.
That’s all the info i want to give, seeing the sort of ppl
with whom, we as a copyright company are usually dealing.

The quote is correct but but used as metaphore for this type of thinking

    geenstijl translates no style.

  7. Jon Says:

    @ gappi and RW:

Thanks for letting us know Kuik’s office isn’t really chock full of dodgy items. ;)

But somehow, it’s appropriate his laptop is made by Sony, given that Sony is both a member of the Big 4 music gang and a Hollywood studio, and that it also makes excellent, easily concealed camcorders, as well as other gear.

    Cheers!

  8. Reader's Write Says:

We knew than Kuik is a parasite but we did not know yet he was that stupid.

Now that he admitted to stole a laptop what do you think will happen next?

  9. tim kuik Says:

The laptop I use was forfeited as part of the criminal conviction of a hacker. BREIN represented the injured party. Of course we abide by the law, we can hardly ask others to do the same if we wouldn’t.
