New China online content regulations?
p2pnet news view Music:- More bad news for China’s Baidu search company, still suffering repercussions from the tainted milk scandal of almost exactly a year ago.
‘Any song, music video, and flash video transmitted online, through mobile or fixed-line, as well as direct links to music products.’
That’s the definition of China’s Ministry of Culture (MoC) of online music content.
And it comes in announcement which, says Pali Research, “could be quite negative to Baidu as 80% of Baidu`s traffic, we believe, is from music search,” and which may herald, “just the first wave of regulations for online content and activities”.
An MOC official, “who gave an interview to the media clearly stated that Baidu and Sogou (owned by SOHU) can only provide search music links from legitimate music companies,” it says.
Among Baidu music search results, “links that are provided by illegitimate music companies are significant,” says Pali, adding:
“If Baidu has to cut off the links to illegitimate music content, then we believe traffic to its websites could decrease.”
