Amazon re-Kindles Orwell deal
p2pnet news view Freedom | P2P:- Amazon recently remotely deleted digital versions of George Orwell`s 1984 from Kindle `books`.
A company spokesperson was at the time quoted by the New York Times as saying the books were added to the Kindle store by a company that, did not have rights to them, using a self-service function, and, When we were notified of this by the rights holder, we removed the illegal copies from our systems and from customers` devices, and refunded customers.
Now Amazon has promised to, “redeliver the titles to their e-readers for free, along with any annotations users had made,” says the Associated Press, adding:
“Or the customers can get a $30 Amazon.com gift certificate or a $30 check — which could be worth much more than two Kindle books, because many of them cost $10 or less.
“Kindle owners who bought both ‘1984′ and ‘Animal Farm’ will be eligible for $60 if they don’t opt to have their books replaced.”

Sorry.
Just knowing that not only do they remotely check what you read, but can delete it
whenever they feel you shouldn’t have it, is reason enough to never own a Kindle.
Been telling everyone that I know who is considering buying an e-reader.
Nice Job Amazon.

So, let me get this straight… If you ordered both books, and got them taken away by amazon, they will give you two $30 gift cards equaling $60. The kindle books cost roughly $10? Anyone else do the math here? Just take the amazon gift cards buy the two books back, and profit $40

Don’t buy a Kindle and don’t worry about random censorship at all.

Now that I think of it, George Orwell must be the anti-John Belushi. Belushi was in ‘1941′ and ‘Animal House’…

No way will I ever buy a Kindle.
DRM is still DRM no matter how you look at it.
The phrase “defective by design” comes to mind here.

Now Amazon has promised to, âredeliver the titles to their e-readers for free, along with any annotations users had made,â…
How can they restore a users annotations unless they copied them to their own servers? Is this a breach of the users copyright (At least here in the UK where copyright is automatic) and / or privacy laws? What exactly would Amazon do with these annotations? Can they download any content they like from peoples Kindles whenever they want?? Does the user know about this ability?
I find this quite worrying!

amazon is more customer – centric company ……. it ll never take decisions to disturb customer privacy…. u must still consider the good fact that they r ready to send back d books fr free or full money replacement………it sows the importance they show to their customers.

Note-added spaces to links so they don’t work as seen, to prevent any “making available” lawsuit nonsense such as what happened to DVD Jon.
