YouTube movies deal
p2pnet news view Advertising | Movies:- A deal between YouTube, owned by online advertising giant Google, and “several major movie studios about renting movies” has Netflix and Blockbuster worried.
The agreement could pose “stiff competition” to Netflix’s online streaming and Blockbuster’s rental services, says Reuters.
The companies have already seen a drop in share prices, says the story.
“According to a person familiar with the talks, YouTube has held discussions with Lions Gate Entertainment Corp, Sony Pictures, a unit of Sony Corp, and Time Warner Inc’s Warner Brothers about online movie rentals,” it says, going on:
“It would mark the first time the world’s most popular video site would charge users to watch videos.”
