Is a $100 PC feasible?
p2pnet.net News:- Geoff lane writes in a /. post:
"Ballmer wants a $100 computer. OK, can we build a reasonable PC for just $100 and a copy of Linux? The rules are: It’s assumed that a monitor, keyboard and mouse are already available. Ethernet connectivity must be provided. All components must already have Linux support. All components must be new and currently available. The result must be electrically safe for the home. Is it possible?"
Ballmer isn’t the only one thinking of a cheapo box. In fact, was his announcment prompted by AMD’s plans for a $249 computer aimed at markets in the ‘emerging’ countries?
In the meanwhile, is a $100 feasible?

Anyone can go to, for example, http://www.pricewatch.com
and try to make a pc out of the parts.
So if we consider the information there accurate…
..and we neglect shipping…
10$ Motherboard: Intel – BL440ZX 370Intel CHPSET w/ LAN/2USB
7$ CPU Intel Pentium 200MHz MMX
32$ HD: 15.3gb EIDE Seagate
6$ Video Card: Hightech SIS 6326 4MB AGP
6.95$ Power Supply: LCT Technology – POWER500W
18$ Case: Desktop ATX Turbo Case
—–
79.95$
With 20.05$ left for stuff I didn’t think about… cables…
Maybe a network card.
Ok, so I’m not sure it would all work together…
Or that the pieces are new, but there you go.

While that’d make a decent smoothwall [firewall] box (after you buy ram), I’d hope they could make something a little more powerful. lol
