Elton John’s adoption of HIV boy refused
p2pnet news view Music:- Elton John and his Canadian partner, David Furnish, wanted to adopt Lev, a 14-month-old HIV-positive Ukrainian boy.
But their hopes have been dashed.
They’re not married, and John, 62, is too old, authorities in the boy’ s country have ruled.
“Foreign citizens who are single have no right to adopt children … and the age difference between the adopter and the child cannot be more than 45 years,” the BBC has family, youth and sports minister Yuriy Pavlenko saying.
John told a press conference in Ukraine on Saturday Lev,whom he’d met at an orphanage for children whose lives had been affected by Aids and HIV, had “stolen my heart”.
“He and partner Furnish, 46, had always ‘talked about adoption’,” he said, according to the story.
Adoption of children with health problems is rare in Ukraine, “and they are likely to spend their entire lives in orphanages,” says the CBC, adding:
“John runs a foundation for AIDS prevention and patient care and supports several projects in Ukraine.”

David Furnish has family in Ontario. I used to play hockey with a relative of his. It’s sad, they would have given this child an amazing home. I hope they are willing to do the same thing for another child where they are legally able to. Maybe find another family who is willing to take the child from the Ukraine Orphanage in the meantime. Good luck to them.

I understand the policy. 62 is pretty old to be raising a child.
Then again, most 62 year olds aren’t Elton John.
He is healthier than most 62 year olds, and has vast resources at his disposal. They should have made an exception.

@ normal1515
I’m 67 and I’m raising a child.
With my wife, of course. heh.
Emma is now 13 and she doesn’t seem to have any complaints.
Cheers!

perhaps they were denied because its not too healthy to bring up the kid in a gay environment?

perhaps you missed the part about the potential adoptee kid having HIV. readers write above how can he get any less healthy by living in a gay environment? Can you explain this to me? as im completely at odds with why you would make such a comment.

How does HIV make a blind bit of difference?

Yeah HIV is not a gay-only disease. Anyone can get it.
The truth is, HIV treatment requires expensive drugs, so having a wealthy parent like Elton John would be good.
