Google online book control move postponed

p2pnet news view Advertising | P2P:- Advertising giant Google’s efforts to gain control of online books has come up against a stumbling block.

An agreement between Gargle and authors and publishers following a $125  million class action lawsuit theoretically allows it to distribute and sell digital versions of out of print, copyrighted books, say the BBC.

But judge Denny Chin has, “postponed a fairness hearing set for next month that was meant to address a settlement,” says the story, going on:

“Judge Chin’s decision comes after the American Association of Publishers and the Authors Guild asked the court to delay the final fairness hearing on the proposed agreement, which needs court approval to go ahead.”

A US Department of Justice filing says the deal needs to be reworked, “so that it complied with US copyright and antitrust laws,” says a story, adding:

“It was revealed earlier this week that publishers, authors and Google have been working to modify the agreement, which was completed last year.”

It’s mind-boggling that Google is gettng away with this in the first place.
