Is the Twitter ‘Wow!’ factor fading?
p2pnet news view Advertising | P2P:- “Twitter’s the talk of the Web this week, with word that its latest round of funding could be worth as much as $100 million,” says PC World.
“That’d bring the company’s total value to a whopping $1 billion — an awful lot of zeros for a startup based on brevity …”
Does that mean now we’ll get fewer girlie spam ads?
“I AM BORED HANG OUT WITH MEEEE” – pouts ‘Tania Neal’ in a Twitter spam.
Then, “cool!!” – she says, claiming she, “made $544 working from home @XXXX.com”.
Just like Eddie, and Isabel, and Earnestine, and a bevvy of other Twitter girls who over the weekend clogged up our inbox with Twitter junk mail —- and who, by an amazing coincidence, all earned exactly the same amount.
However, even with the, “added attention being directed toward the microblogging service, though, it looks like its once-unstoppable growth may have started to slow,” sayst PC World.
And, with “scammers and spammers trying their darndest to take it over,” is Twitter in no danger of disappearing?
No worries, says the story, adding:
“Its Web site alone pulls in 54 million visitors a month, according to some recent estimates, and the fresh influx of cash is certainly a positive sign for the company’s future. Indeed, plenty of people are still singing Twitter’s praises (or simply singing about Twitter, in some cases).”
(Cheers, catflap)

It never wowed me, I setup an account and all I wrote was “setting up Twitter” after a week I had 20 followers and after a month I had close to 100. I could not understand why people were following me I had not wrote anything more. I had a laugh at these losers then deleted the account. I’ll never open another account I just don’t see a use for it email works just fine for me.

I block spammers as soon as they show up on my followers list. Someone like Jon, who is more well known than I am probably attracts a lot more of them.

They seriously need to get the crap out of this site. I received around 20 messages since I subscribed, all coporate spamming.

I don’t think twitter is going to survive as-is. I predict micro-blogging and social networking will decentralize to a greater degree in the future.
Less restrictions, less data-mining, and less headaches in general will probably drive the switch.
However, twitter and facebook’s models will probably be profitable for at least several more years…..

I have a twitter account, but I honestly haven’t figured out what the hell to do with it.
I posted a few times, Jon’s following me (for some god-unknown reason!), and my wife and a few of her relatives seem to be following me….as well as some strange, semi-goth woman whose posts are all dark and depressive and suchlike.
But I haven’t actually figured out what do *do* with Twitter, like I said:
1. Just as easy to email the people I actually know.
2. 120 characters or however much it is is a REALLY small amount to actually do anything useful.
I just don’t get it.
