Counterfeit CD ring busted
p2pnet.net News:- Seven people involved in the manufacture and distribution of counterfeit music CD-Rs, movie DVDs and PC games have been arrested by the Naples, Italy, Fiscal Police and District Attorney’s office.
Last weekend, public prosecutor Francesco Soviero announced the end of Operation Jolly Roger which led to the arrest of the leaders of four criminal organizations involved in the illegal audiovisual piracy in Naples, says a Big Four record label cartel statement.
The name of the operation makes it plain the Italians were working closely with cartel ‘agents’.
During the long-running investigation, high speed cd-burners and three millions music cds, dvds, videogames, PSX software and inlay cards, were seized, says the statement, going on:
"Four major printing facilities were also seized. The Judge for the preliminary investigation said ‘piracy has now replaced cigarette smuggling in Naples’ and it is a ‘business very attractive for organized crime linked to the local mafia’."
The hardware and electronics divison of cartel member Sony makes and sells CD/DVD burners and blanks.
