Jet strafes Little Egg school
p2pnet.net OT News:- It was an accident.
That’s how the US military descibes an unbelievable incident in which an F16 fighter plane straffed a school at Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey.
A custodian, “called cops after hearing what he described as footsteps on the roof of the building.”
The ‘footsteps’ were 2″ rounds fired by an M61-A1 Vulcan cannon mounted in the F16’s left wing.
“Three or four custodians were in the building at about 10:15 p.m. when six to eight rounds hit the roof – some penetrating into the school – and another five hit the parking lot,” says the Asbury Park Press.
The F-16, assigned to the 113th Wing of the District of Columbia Air National Guard, discharged about 25 20 mm rounds from its automatic M61-A1 Vulcan cannon, the story says, going on:
“The accident occurred during a nighttime training mission originating at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. The school is 3 1/2 miles away from the target at the bombing range.”
Local Police Chief Mark Siino is quoted as saying eight holes were found in the roof, six rounds in the building and five more outside. None were found beyond school property.

They were very lucky it was a school holiday.
Usually when the US military “accidently” hits civilian targets such as radio and TV stations, or Al-Jazeera newsrooms, they always claim it was an innocent mistake. This might be the first time ever that it actually was.

so much for precision bombing

“The accident occurred during a nighttime training mission originating at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.”
Which might explain why the F-16 fighter didn’t realise it was a school instead of a target.
I guess someone failed spatial orientation training.

If the school had been open, the kids would probably have used their 9’s and other weaponry to fire back.

Cheers!
