Google dumps The Pirate Bay home page

p2pnet news view Freedom | P2P:- Ace indexing site Google (right) has deleted the home page of ace indexing site The Pirate Bay.

The move follows a complaint it received under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act, says the IDG News Service, going on

A search for “The Pirate Bay” Fridays turned up a message at the bottom of the first search-results page that said: “In response to a complaint we received under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act, we have removed 7 result(s) from this page. If you wish, you may read the DMCA complaint that caused the removal(s) at ChillingEffects.org.”

The complaint was filed by Destined Enterprises, “which in the past has helped the adult-entertainment industry battle online piracy, according to other filings at ChillingEffects.org.,

Google doesn’t  say anything other than what’s available at ChillingEffects.org, according to a spokesman, adds IDG.

  1. Monkey D. Luffy Says:

So they receive a complaint from the cum industry and they rush to comply. Since when did the DCMA apply to Sweden?

  2. catflap Says:

i get a normal search result with no DMCA notices.

  3. catflap Says:

well actually, now i see at the bottom, my page says they removed 3 results. but the search results page doesn’t look any different than usual except for that if you scroll to the very bottom.

  4. Reader's Write Says:

Wait……so according to these dickheads, not only is it illegal to provide links to infringing content, but also to link to an indexing site full of links?

I wonder if Wayne Crooks had anything to do with it….

  5. NO1UNO Says:

Its all based on the real difference between TPB and Gargoyle……….
TPB tells the corporations to kiss their ass!
Gargoyle tells the corporations to bend over, so they(Gargoyle) can kiss ass!

  6. Reader's Write Says:

The good news is that we don’t need google to find the pirate Bay.

  7. catflap Says:

also, it gives no indication of which links are removed, meaning that the message doesn’t say that links from pbay were removed, only that “links” were removed. there are other search results not from pbay but which do mention pbay. who’s to say the removed links are direct pbay links? i don’t see that info.

  8. catflap Says:

sorry for another double post, but i just did the search again three times and the DMCA message is nowhere on the page.

  9. Eric Says:

Nothing untoward here. Links are as normal.

  10. Eric Says:

Found it, apparently it was booted off the searches “by mistake”:

    http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-10366570-93.html

“Google received a (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) take-down request that erroneously listed Thepiratebay.org, and as a result, this URL was accidentally removed from the Google search index,” Google said in a statement. “We are now correcting the removal, and you can expect to see Thepiratebay.org back in Google search results this afternoon.”

Later, Google updated it’s statement: “The removal appears to be an internal error and not part of a DMCA request.”

  11. Jesse Says:

I see no such thing. My google defaults to google.ca. Maybe they only removed it from one of the country pages. Follow the letter of the law if not the spirit?
