‘To the Roman Catholic Faithful of Nova Scotia’
p2pnet news view | Crime:- Raymond Lahey, the disgraced ex-bishop for Nova Scotia’s Antigonish diocese, is presently living at a monastery in Rogersville, New Brunswick, while he waits to answer charges centering on the possession and importation of kiddie porn.
He’s to apppear before an Ottawa court on November 4.
“I have cried and I have silently screamed, and perhaps that was my prayer to God,” says archbishop Anthony Mancini (right), named Antigonish apostolic administrator after Lahey’s resignation.
“Why Lord?” – he asks in a pastoral letter published today on the diocese web page.
Lahey said he hoped “to never again have to deal with such reprehensible behaviour” after a $15-million settlement to people who, when they were children, were sexually abused by priests.
He’s now free on bail of $9,000 after he surrendered to police in Ottawa who charged him with importing and possessing child pornography.
But his name has come up in other pornography allegations.
Newfoundland police have reopened their files into the Mount Cashel orphanage scandal, says the Chronicle Herald.
Shane Earle, “abused as a boy by some of the Christian Brothers who ran the orphanage,” told the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary that, “Bishop Lahey showed him pornographic images in the 1980s,” says the story.
Now, “In the past days, I have been asked over and over again: What do you say to the parishioners, to the priests, the young people and to the faithful communities that make up our Church in Nova Scotia?” - Mancini writes, going on
What will you say to the victims of sexual abuse, as we all struggle in the aftermath of unbelievable revelations and allegations of even more unacceptable shocking and possible criminal sexual behaviour?
What I want to say is: Enough is enough! How much more can all of us take? Like you, my heart is broken, my mind is confused, my body hurts and I have moved in and out of a variety of feelings especially shame and frustration, fear and disappointment, along with a sense of vulnerability, and a tremendous poverty of spirit.
Towards the end of his letter, “If our church is to get beyond our present difficulties, if we hope to have any significant future, we must learn the lessons which these last years of struggle point to.,” he says.
“One of these lessons is for all of us to have a better understanding of what constitutes a human person.”

I was reading more on this one and came across a website put up by one of the people who was raped by these priests years ago. (I forget the website now, I should have kept it. Think Jon may have it in one of the earlier stories on this).
Per that site, one of the people who came forward years ago pointed the finger at this guy but they dismissed it back then.
I hope this is all re-opened and they get re-sued once more.

At least with child porn, the parishioners won’t have to shell out $millions for more lawsuits.
The news never said how he got his illegal porn. As this is a blog about file sharing issues, can we assume he using Limewire or other P2P?

not the only one recently in ontario to get caught red handed.
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/toronto/story/2009/10/04/toronto-dewees.html
“David Dewees, a Toronto high school teacher charged with trying to initiate sexual contact with two teenage boys, had been a volunteer counsellor at a Christian camp since 1997.” The sad part of the story is he commited suicide rather then receive the help he needed.
What makes this even more twisted is this is this guy volunteered at the same brainwashing Christian camp I went to for at least 4 summers as a teen. I knew this guy, not personally but now I recognize his face and it scares the shit out of me.

@RW:
“The news never said how he got his illegal porn.”
Could be a few things:
1. Pic’s of kids he see’s
2. Pic’s from closed secure website
3. Pics sent to him from other sicko’s if they are a group doing this
Rarely would this be out on P2P that anyone can grab. These things are usually a closed group of people. These things used to be very rampant on usenet, and may still be (haven’t used usenet since the 90’s).

This kind of thing is probably more widespread than many people might think. I’ve wondered if my 2nd grade teacher ever got in hot water for the stuff she did with willing young boys afterschool in an empty lights-out classroom all those years ago.

You gotta be kidding, right ?
Ever try to find ‘ordinary’ porn on regular P2P ?
Ain’t gonna happen.
Almost every bit of it is a malware laden trap, or fakes admonshing
people for trying to find teh evil porn.
Don’t buy into the bullshit, or try to sell it.
This …

“Why Lord? Why did he have to get caught before he burned a copy for me?”

There’s tons of it on the eD2K network. THe key to finding the real stuff is to search for specific video titles, or the names of specific websites. Yes, if you just put in generic terms, you’re going to get a lot of fake crap, but if you’re looking for something specific, you can usually find it.
