Well said, Thinker. There is no "balance" when it comes to individual rights.

A great article.

Then how about an article titled
“Looking for the “right balance” of right to live”

It would deal with the problem of medical costs, including:
- the right of drug manufactures to sell 5 cent pills for 100 dollars
- the right of insurance companies to take 20 percent of all medical costs
- the right of insurers to reject persons because of previous existing conditions
- the right of some doctors to become millionaires on short notice

All of that versus the right of the people to live.

BALANCE? Nonsense.

Balance in copyright? Nonsense.

As with any set of laws, the cost of enforcement needs to be considered. Prohibition of alcohol during the 1920s seemed like an excellent idea to many people -- too bad no one considered the heavy cost of trying to police the organized crime that sprang up across the USA as a result.

Copyright and its enforcement also creates a high cost to society, in more ways than one. For instance, how much financial & political capital has the US expended rewarding/threatening other countries throughout the world to comply with the never-ending Hollywood-dictated (and Washington enforced) copyright extension acts?

When a policy's overall cost to society becomes greater than the benefit (which in the case of IP is realized by a small favored group) then it's time to scrap the policy and start over.
